Traffic Signal Supervisor – T11732-202305 Government Job Dept-SI-T11732-202305 Full Time

JOB INFORMATION

Traffic Signal Supervisor positions plan, assign, train and supervise the work of subordinates and support staff in the installation, maintenance, modification and repair of traffic signals and related components; determine new work procedures, materials and equipment needed; estimate job costs; establish preventive maintenance plans; and perform other duties as assigned.

       NOTE:

  • Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  You must meet ONE of the following options:

  1. Associate’s Degree in Electronic Technology AND four years of full-time journey-level Traffic Signal Technician or Electrician work in an industrial environment (e.g., factory, manufacturing company or shipyard).
  2. Successful completion of a state-accredited four-year Electrician Apprenticeship Program AND two years of full-time journey-level Traffic Signal Technician or Electrician work in an industrial environment.
  3. Six years of full-time experience in all phases of journey-level Traffic Signal Technician or Electrician work in an industrial environment.

       NOTES:

  • Qualifying experience must include a minimum of ONE year of full-time experience installing, repairing and troubleshooting traffic signals and related components.
  • Qualifying industrial environment (e.g., factory, manufacturing company or shipyard) experience MUST include installing, repairing and troubleshooting in at least ONE of the following areas:
  1. Industrial machinery digital controls such as numerical or programmable computer digital control components.
  2. Commercial, industrial or underground electrical conduit wiring such as conduit wiring for industrial machinery and equipment, street lighting or traffic signal systems.
  3. Commercial-type electrical control systems such as assembly line speed controls or manufacturing process line sequence controls.
  • Qualifying experience MUST include using blueprints, schematics and electrical/electronic test equipment.
  • Residential wiring and electrical troubleshooting and repair are NOT considered qualifying experience.
  • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered. 

LICENSE:  A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

  • Experience working with fiber optics.
  • Experience working with traffic signal interconnect systems
  • Experience in repairing or modifying Intel-based PC-related platforms.

SCREENING PROCESS

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Employment offers are conditional pending the results of all screening processes that are applicable to this position, which may include the following: confirmation of citizenship or legal right to work in the United States; completion of a pre-employment medical review and exam (which may include drug and alcohol testing); reference checks; and fingerprinting.
