Job Description Summary:
Starting hourly pay range for these positions are, commensurate with experience
• Maintenance Technician I: Up to $22.89, (Full pay range $17.68 to $23.94)
• Maintenance Technician II: Up to $28.52, (Full pay range $19.93 to $31.90)
• Maintenance Technician III: Up to $31.36, (Full pay range $21.93 to $35.09)
TRAINING:
Paid training will be provided to successful applicants. Training includes but is not limited to commercial driver’s license training, heavy equipment training, other training to meet qualifications for promotion to higher technician classifications.

OVERALL JOB OBJECTIVE
Under direct or general supervision, performs a variety of entry level to skilled street maintenance and repair tasks in the areas of maintenance, construction and equipment operation for City of Boulder transportation corridors, and performs related duties as required.
Transportation Maintenance Technician I: Under direct supervision, performs entry level to semi-skilled tasks.
Transportation Maintenance Technician II: Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled to skilled tasks.
Transportation Maintenance Technician III: Under general supervision, provides staff direction, daily coordination of activities, and performs skilled to semi-skilled tasks.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following explains the expectations with additional information for Maintenance Technician III
1. Supports and performs maintenance and repairs of the City of Boulder Transportation & Mobility system for streets, including but not limited to the following:
2. Uses tools and equipment in the performance of maintenance tasks and may perform minor and preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles. (For more information; see the Required Minimum Qualifications and Working Conditions sections below).
3. Willingness/ability to respond to 25% after hours work during irregular hours, weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergencies.

5. Must Respond to 100% of snow shifts when called from September through May.
6. Actively promotes a safety culture by observing and following all city and department safety procedures, regulations and policies and assists in ensuring others do so in order to promote a safe work environment and prevent injuries and illnesses.

5. Participates as a member of a team.
6. May assist in maintaining the Utilities infrastructure system.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Basic mathematic, written, and spoken communication skills.
Experience/Licenses and Certifications:
Maintenance Technician I
At least one year of experience in outdoor maintenance or construction, preference given for experience in streets, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Within nine months of hire, obtain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with these endorsements: B (26,001 or more pounds); N (Tanker); and without L (airbrake restrictions).
Possession of or completion of the following certifications and trainings within nine months of the hire date:
Maintenance Technician II
Possesses all of the technical and interpersonal skills, certifications, licenses, and training defined for the Maintenance Technician I. At least two years of experience in streets or landscape maintenance and one year experience with snow removal, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which includes:
Maintenance Technician III
Possesses all of the technical and interpersonal skills, certifications, licenses, and training defined for the Maintenance Technician II. At least four years of experience demonstrating a strong knowledge of street or landscape maintenance operations and thorough knowledge of snow removal operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which includes experience with:

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
WORKING CONDITIONS – Required Physical and Mental Effort, and Environmental Conditions:
In addition to the information listed in the required minimum qualifications section.
Physical and Mental Effort: Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to operate equipment, and review evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an outdoor environment in a variety of weather conditions and in confined spaces and to operate equipment while working in and around moving traffic. Upper body strength to lift and carry equipment and supplies as needed. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.
Work Environment: Works outdoors in a variety of weather conditions in and around moving traffic, and in confined spaces. Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
Machines and equipment used include, but are not limited to the following: Hand and power tools, long-handled tools, jackhammer, chainsaw, tamper, grinder, compressor, safety devices, utility truck, single and tandem-axle dump trucks, backhoe, loader, two-way radio, telephones, calculators, and copy/fax machines.
