The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is in the Irwin and Joan Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. It is a large interdisciplinary engineering department that provides an exciting and inclusive environment that promotes discovery and excellence in a wide range of engineering, scientific, entrepreneurial and professional areas with over 1,000 undergraduate students, 400 graduate students and 45+ faculty.
The IEEE Transactions on Open Access Journal on Control Systems (IEEE OJCS) is a new journal publication of the IEEE Control Systems Society that will be kicked off in June 2021. The journal objectives are to publish high quality technical papers in all areas of control theory as well as technological advances in the design, and operation of control systems. Within all the areas spanning control theory and its applications, of special interest will be given to publications focusing on data-driven and learning for control topics. The Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Open Access Journal on Control Systems is a full professor in UC San Diego s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
The Editorial Assistant will assist the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Open Access Journal on Control Systems (IEEE OJCS) to prepare editorial content sufficient for 4 issues annually. Under general supervision, this position will prepare weekly reports, screen manuscripts (figures, videos, code) submitted to the journal for errors and/or missing components, manage the submission and associate editors database, monitor the status of the reviewing process and maintain the journal website.
In addition, this position will assist the Editor-in-Chief with recruiting and outreach for members of the editorial board and guest editors. The Editorial Assistant will coordinate the publication Editorial Board Meetings by managing invitations, RSVPs, and logistics. Some travel may be required.
Demonstrated working knowledge of library usage and resources.
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Acrobat Adobe Pro. Knowledge of web editing tools and using internet search tools for information retrieval.
Strong ability to work independently with a variety of computer platforms and software programs. Ability to self-teach, and to read and comprehend computer manuals. Ability to update and increase skills and knowledge in this area to meet the needs of business.
Ability to independently generate copy and edit technical material. Knowledge of professional journal format requirements and proofreader’s marks.
Excellent communication skills to communicate ideas and issues clearly, including superior composition, proofreading and oral communication.
Promptness, reliability, and attention to detail. Skilled in organizing and prioritizing work on a daily basis to meet deadlines. Skilled in organizing large volumes of material.
Ability to work effectively for a large and productive research group, under a minimum of general supervision, using independent judgment.
Proven knowledge, understanding and ability to coordinate work within policies and procedures as they relate to a variety of administrative functions. Ability to perform work according to established protocols. Ability to assist with establishing new procedures as needed.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work with a diverse group of people, communicate clearly and effectively on the telephone, e-mail and in person. Demonstrate tact and diplomacy with all constituents at all levels to promote positive relationships.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of matters related to work, along with the exercise of diplomacy and mature judgment.
