Job overview and responsibilities
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Sr. Manager plays a key role in delivering a diverse, respectful, authentic and inclusive workplace by driving, promoting and implementing United’s enterprise Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategy. Doing so ensures that United employees, in turn, deliver an inclusive and welcoming experience to our 140 million customers each year. The DEI Sr. Manager will assist in the implementation of company-wide DEI strategies, programs and initiatives. Primary focus will be driving the development, implementation and integration of best practices, resources and trends to increase diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural proficiency. This position will also be responsible for tracking and reporting DEI metrics and progress. The DEI Sr. Manager will work cross-functionally, build out programs, manage execution while driving and tracking workstreams (with Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development and Learning & Engagement) to support DEI objectives.
Partner with key stakeholders to develop and drive execution of a comprehensive DEI strategic plan focused on achieving higher levels of diversity representation, developing inclusive leaders, creating an inclusive environment and designing equitable talent management structures and processes
Develop and build robust programs as well as strategic initiatives that create a common language around DEI that aligns with company goals and business outcomes
Build DEI through innovative programs and initiatives that build awareness, allyship and capabilities company-wide and
enhance both the employee and candidate experience
Identify KPIs and develop an approach to assess progress, achievement and accountability within the company and partner with (HRBP) team to measure the impact and effectiveness of DEI initiatives and the overall impact on culture
Leverage metrics and subject matter expertise to develop targeted, function-specific action plans and drive strategic
outcomes, focusing on sustainable behavioral drivers
Analyze data such as engagement surveys and organizational culture audits
Prepare reports for upper management to inform decision-making
Track and report DEI metrics and progress
Drive corporate DEI strategies by building trusting partnerships and providing consultation with business units, executive leadership, HR Business Partners, diversity councils and Business Resource Groups (BRGs)
Work in coordination with Global Community Engagement in order to amplify DEI within the organization through
strategic partnerships and employee engagement
Required
Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of relevant work experience
9+ years of related work experience
Minimum of 3 years of professional DEI experience including leading the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and belonging space Experience in developing diversity and inclusion frameworks that connect to an organization’s mission and business
strategy for growth and scalability
Proven track record of critical thinking
Synthesizing data to address complex problems via achievable strategies/solutions
Demonstrated attention to detail and strong prioritization skills
Exceptional communicator in both written and verbal interactions
Clear, concise, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and courageous in giving tough yet supportive feedback when
needed to leaders at all levels
Possesses strong leadership and business acumen as well as ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment and
work with a diverse style of leadership
Deep understanding and strong application of the concepts related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as
organizational structures that impact the implementation and management of effective change efforts
Experience activating global teams and cross-functional partners to operationalize successful diversity and inclusion
programs
Demonstrated cross-cultural competencies, including strong emotional intelligence and the ability to engage and build
relationships
Knowledge of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy design, implementation and execution
Knowledge of change management or culture transformation approaches
Knowledge of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion frameworks, systems and tools
Diagnostic, synthesis, conceptual and analytical skills to recommend solutions
Consulting and relationship management with HR
Ability to support and resolve complex issues related to diversity
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to collaborate across lines of business and functions in a large,
complex organization
Problem solver with ability to organize and conduct efficient results-oriented project meetings and manage projects and
demanding deadlines
Expert knowledge of PowerPoint and extensive experience creating presentations and other visual DEI materials/
communications
Demonstrated organizational skills and confidentiality with sensitive information
Proven ability to work with ambiguity and agility in a rapidly changing environment
Strong business acumen and ability to stay abreast of industry and organizational knowledge
Ability to listen and understand various viewpoints and navigate issues to find and deliver innovative and pragmatic
solutions
Ability to balance big picture, strategic thinking with tactical implementation
Demonstrated advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
