Reporting to the General Manager – Human Resources and Talent Management, the ideal candidate will use a blend of creativity and data-driven decision-making to lead efforts that support our Corporate DE&I strategies. This will include participating in the development and execution of innovative ways to attract, develop, engage, and retain diverse talent in the company, as well as serving as an advisor and business partner to stakeholders in the organization.
Key Areas of Focus:
Attraction – Enhance or develop recruiting channels for under-represented groups and Veterans, including elements of University- and Professional Group- Relations.
On-boarding – Assess on-boarding process for various levels of employees; identify opportunities for improvement.
Retention – Determine specific programs to improve the employee experience at time of hire and early in career to increase retention of new employees.
Employee Resource Groups – coordinate and facilitate meetings with leaders of our Employee Resource Groups and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Executive Council to help focus, drive, and enable our ERGs to succeed
Community Engagement – support community engagement efforts across our North America footprint, leveraging key resources and stakeholders in each location to meaningfully give back to our communities
Research – Evaluates external best practices in identified areas to determine applicability to USS.
Partner – Collaboration with key Corporate Communication, Safety, Operational and other functional leadership and groups on key organization wide events and initiatives aligned with DE&I efforts throughout USS.
Responsibilities:
Act as a functional manager within area of expertise but does not manage other employees as a primary job function.
Work collaboratively within the matrix of the Human Resources organization to effectively support and receive support from functional group leads (e.g., Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, etc.) to manage projects to completion
Assist in implementing inclusion and diversity strategic plan.
Create, build, and own programs that have a measurable impact on inclusion and diversity.
Partner with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and the HR Project Management team to educate and coach leaders on progressive ways to enhance diversity and inclusion on their teams.
Support diversity activities and oversee our eight (8) internal Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
Identify and build relationships with external partners, including thought leaders and peer organizations, that deliver impact and support our diversity and inclusion strategies.
Act as thought leader, advocate and advisor to business units, ERGs, and leaders.
Undertake the tactical day-to-day work necessary to support and coordinate inclusion and diversity-based projects
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business, HR, or similar field. Master’s degree preferred.
5 or more years of experience in HR with 2 or more years relevant experience in diversity, inclusion, equity, and employee engagement fields in a corporate setting, and 2 or more years of experience in project management/change management, from making strategic decisions to tactical implementation.
Experience communicating with and building relationships with cross-functional partners and executive leaders.
Experience researching, building, and driving strategic plans.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including writing, presentation building, influence, consulting, and negotiation.
Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including multi-tasking capabilities, priority setting, and meeting deadlines; ability to move quickly from one task to another depending on changing priorities and circumstances.
