Job Title: Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Program Director
FLSA: Exempt
Grade: 13+
Reports To: Director of Behavioral Health (Corrections)
Introduction of Position:
Under the direction of the DOC Director of Behavioral Health, the SUD Program Director has the primary responsibility for fully implementing and monitoring all SUD services including Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) throughout the DOC facilities known as the Central Detention Facility (CDF) and the Correctional Treatment Facility (CTF), jointly referred as the DC Jail. The SUD Program Director will be responsible for delivering high quality, evidence-based services including curriculum-driven individual and group counseling and psychoeducation and for the tracking and reporting of MAT services, Naloxone education and distribution. Close collaboration with community-based clinics is required in order to assure continuity of care upon release from custody. These include select Unity health centers delivering MAT in the community, especially those with onsite pharmacies, as well as other Methadone and MAT providers. Though the Unity medical providers at DOC will not report directly to the SUD Program Director, close collaboration for expanding, tracking and reporting on all SUD services is expected. The SUD Program Director will also be responsible for hiring, training and supervising addiction counselors such as Certified Addictions Counselors (CAC), LPCs or other behavioral health professionals with addictions experience. The SUD Program Director will also be responsible for the hiring, training and supervision of Peer Navigators such as certified Forensic Peer Specialists or others with “lived experience” who will play key roles in identifying and engaging program participants and working closely with individuals to assertively link them to appropriate community providers upon release from incarceration.
In addition to direct care of program participants, the SUD Program Director will be a resource for other staff members, including the Mental Health Coordinator, psychiatrists, mental health clinicians, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners (family and psychiatric), nurses, discharge planners, correctional staff and the administration.
