The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford
(UICOMR) seeks a faculty member in Child Abuse Pediatrics. The rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or
Professor of Clinical Pediatrics will be commensurate with experience. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role as the
Co-Medical Director of MERIT, contributing to research in the field of child abuse and neglect, as well as
clinical pediatric practice. The position will involve a well-rounded commitment to research, clinical practice in the
field of child abuse, and other clinical activities relevant to the individual’s specialty. The research aspect entails taking a leadership
role in developing a robust research program within the department.
The University of Illinois, College of Medicine, is a national
leader in medical education. The Rockford regional campus was founded in 1971 to address the healthcare needs of the people of Illinois and
has trained over 2,000 physicians. The MERIT program, which commenced in May of 2008, is a non-hospital-based, University of Illinois COMR
child abuse program providing outpatient medical evaluations for minors suspected of abuse or neglect as well as inpatient consults at all
three Rockford hospitals. MERIT has continuously expanded its service to the region and now provides expert medical evaluations to around
375-400 patients yearly, covering 13 counties and 7 Children Advocacy Centers (CACs) in northwest Illinois. For more information, please

Minimum qualifications include
(1) MD/DO or its foreign equivalent and completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Pediatrics. Board certification or board
eligibility in Child Abuse Pediatrics, (2) prior clinical expertise in the field of child abuse, and (3) unrestricted Illinois license to
practice medicine in Illinois or Illinois license eligible. Experience in conducting clinical research within Pediatrics is preferred but
not required. Strong organizational and leadership skills, including managing multiple projects and priorities are preferred but not
required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively in a
multidisciplinary setting. Culturally competent, with a demonstrated ability to provide compassionate care to diverse populations and foster
an inclusive environment. Availability for shared responsibility of on-call duty during nights and weekends, as needed. Ability to travel
locally and out-of-county as needed. Transportation costs are reimbursed in accordance with UIC policies.
