The Assistant Director of Human Resources serves as a professional level Human Resources Consultant within the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy under the general direction of the Director of Human Resources and Engagement. The position is responsible for providing consultation and support across all employee types within the School. This includes: interpretation of University, State, Federal, and School HR policies; providing consultation and advice on a full spectrum of HR issues and concerns to all levels of School employees, including senior leadership; and carrying out both School-level and campus-wide HR strategies, activities, and plans. The position interacts regularly with key University central offices such as the Office of Human Resources, Academic Personnel Office, the EEO/ADA Office, and Payroll Services. This position prepares, approves, approves, and troubleshoots proposed or implemented HR actions to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures. This position supervises a team of Human Resources Specialists and provides a broad range of human resources consultant services to cover areas such as recruitment and selection, classification, compensation, leave administration, leave consultation, and employee relations. The Assistant Director serves as Deputy to the Director of Human Resources and Engagement in the absence of the Director.
Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of progressively responsible experience analyzing, interpreting, applying, communicating and promoting HR best practices in the context of organizational goals and objectives; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Prefer three to five years of prior human resources experience, with at least one year of supervisory experience. Prior Human Resources experience in higher education, preferably the UNC System. Experience in employee relations strongly preferred. SHRM/HRCI certification is a plus.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
