Position Summary
At the direction of the VP, Human Resources the Sr. Human Resources Generalist is responsible for a variety of Human Resources functions, such as employee relations, staffing, performance management, training and development. Provides consultation and recommendations to staff and managers in the interpretation of policies and procedures, including conducting training/educational sessions to leadership. Utilize knowledge of laws, company policies and best practices to resolve employee issues. Conducts investigations, prepares documentation and mitigates legal risk. Coaches managers on Performance Management conversations & documentation.
The Sr. HR Generalist will need to effectively evaluate and interpret situations and apply sound judgement when recommending the best course of action. Serves as a main contact to employees and managers on employee relations issues (i.e., performance etc.). Manage our company’s short-term and long-term hiring needs. Duties include, but are not limited to leading staffing efforts across the organization to ensure we attract the right talent. Provide guidance for management with their staffing needs to include interviewing skills, training for our Applicant Tracking System, education on Affirmative Action, internal equity and diversity in the workforce. Represents the Credit Union in all aspects of the recruiting process and onboarding experience to deliver a personalized and extra-ordinary experience. The Sr HR Generalist oversees the recruitment and retention function at USE Credit Union and is responsible for building networks of candidates for all open positions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college in related field and minimum of five years of senior level Human Resources experience is required; or combination of education and experience in Human Resources. Minimum of three years employee relations experience is required. Must have experience and knowledge of Human Resources functions including recruitment & selection, EEO, I-9, Affirmative Action, compliance and wage and hour laws. Excellent working knowledge of State and Federal employment law, EEO and Affirmative Action to ensure compliance within staffing realm of responsibilities.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as employee handbook, policy/procedures, CA laws and regulations. Must have excellent presentation and communication skills. Ability to present effectively before Senior Leadership, large groups or employees of organization.
Ability to respond to common inquiries with diplomacy and tact as well as handle escalated complaints from staff, vendors, or members of the business community.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills, good phone and e-mail etiquette, a professional presentation, and a high degree of personal initiative. Interpersonal skills including, but not limited to, motivating and influencing others, maintaining a significant level of trust and diplomacy, fostering internal and external business relationships. Must be able to communicate effectively throughout the organization, including executive leadership. Must have excellent presentation skills.
Working knowledge of federal and state laws and ability to apply accordingly. Ability to use critical thinking and logic to navigate a sequence of events and determine the most appropriate course of action in a variety of situations.
Must demonstrate the ability to use sound decision making/judgement independently, follow directions/guidance from management and interact well with co-workers; understand and adhere to rules/procedures; comply with corporate policies, goals, and objectives; and exhibit professionalism, initiative, and commitment.
Ability to use independent judgement to resolve complex issues and provide recommended solutions.
TECHNOLOGY PROFICIENCY
To perform this job, the employee must possess applicable technology skills and demonstrated expertise. Ability to use HRIS & Payroll system, Word for Windows, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications, as well as the ability to learn new applications quickly; requires general knowledge of network and database use. Intermediate to advanced skill level of Microsoft Office applications (Word & Excel) and power point.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
PHR or SPHR preferred.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job, the employee must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills (written/verbal), good phone and e-mail etiquette, a professional presentation, and a high degree of integrity, ethics and personal initiative.
Must be highly organized, self-disciplined and detail-oriented with the ability to manage and juggle multiple projects. Persistent and dependable, especially in meeting deadlines. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Strong organization and time management skills. Must be a self-starter and work well in a team environment. Must be extremely detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to present effectively to Senior Leadership and in front of large groups.
Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization, employing strong collaboration and teamwork. Additionally, this individual must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively partner with colleagues and external partners on a wide range of issues. Ability to interface and manage external contacts and vendors within the course of routine activities. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, demonstrate accountability, integrity and great work ethics in a culture of accomplishment. This position requires the employee to work during regular business hours and occasional nights or weekends as needed to meet established department deadlines.
