The Southampton County Health Department is seeking a highly motivated Registered Nurse to join a team of clinical professionals who are committed to providing the best care and service within the the Western Tidewater Health District. This position will serve as Public Health Nurse and provide clinical services in multiple nursing programs to include Family Planning, STI, immunization and Communicable disease. Will perform direct nursing services by independently providing professional nursing care to patients in clinics. This nurse will perform nursing assessments, lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including administration of medication and case management. While this PH Nurse will be based in the Southampton County clinic, the selected candidate will perform duties as needed in the Franklin clinic and during Community events.
Typical working hours 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
THERE IS A FIVE–DAY REQUIRED POSTING PERIOD.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a licensed Registered Nurse and have graduated from an accredited School of Nursing, with demonstrated experience performing standard nursing practice skills and the ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate must also have knowledge of health education and ability to adjust to health needs of culturally diverse populations. Must have the ability to perform nursing procedures, obtain detailed health history from clients, evaluate medical/social/environmental needs and ability to establish rapport with public with minimal supervision. Ideal candidate will possess knowledge of principles and practices of public health nursing and epidemiology. Must possess (or be eligible for) CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Public Health Nursing experience or experience in related field – PREFERRED
Bachelor of Science in Nursing – PREFERRED
Special Requirements
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Service’s Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check, and E-Verify. The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interests as a condition of employment, if applicable (Va. Code § 2.2-3114). Other financial, credit, driving, or other background checks prior to employment may be required for certain positions.
VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination.
