Richmond & Henrico Health District (RHHD) is looking for a Public Health Nurse (PHN) Epi Supervisor to join the nursing leadership team and provide clinical operations management, program oversight, and supervision for our epi response team including our COVID clinical and containment team members. This position is responsible for our COVID response team and oversees the functions of epi containment, nurse vaccination, registration, testing and overall strategy and operations of our COVID response. This Supervisor also oversees the implementation of our epi response team, field response, grant requirements, policies and procedures, data collection and orientation and training for the team. This position ensures these services are being executed within VDH policy and that staff are trained to provide these services. This role provides supervisory leadership and serves as the subject matter expert in clinical epidemiology response district wide. This includes using public health research and informatics to develop inter-professional teams who are trained to response to investigations and outbreaks in schools, communities, and congregate care settings. As needed, monitors epidemiology technology to identify trends/outbreaks and participates in vaccine preventable illness response. As required in support of an emergency, serves as a key member of the emergency epi response team.
Serves as community liaison for nursing epidemiology to promote public health awareness, health risk reduction and preventative health in the community through community screenings, mass clinics, community programs, and community events. Uses planning models, epidemiology and other analytical methods in the development, implementation, and evaluation of population-level interventions. The PHN can make sound, independent nursing judgments, analyze and problem solve, and establish priorities. Participates in regular trainings and staff meetings. This position may also provide direct nursing care in the clinical setting, communities, homes and schools.
Other qualifications include: experience with epidemiology response, excellent communication and people skills, the ability to deal effectively with people in sensitive situations, skilled at conflict resolution, good attention to detail and excellent work habits. The PHN Supervisor must excel as a team player, be able to work independently, and be skilled using a computer for word processing and data entry. Experience with project management, development of goals and objectives, and program evaluation needed. Experience working with low-income, disadvantaged or vulnerable populations required.

Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results of a state and federal criminal history background check and the Department of Social Service’s Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check, U.S. HHS IG Exclusion List check, employment reference check, and E-Verify. VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year’s seasonal influenza vaccination.
In accordance with Executive Directive #18, as a condition of employment, the Commonwealth of Virginia requires all Executive Branch employees, including new hires, to disclose their vaccination status. If you are the selected candidate, proof of vaccination will be required during new employee orientation on your first day of work. Employees that are not vaccinated must be tested weekly.
