Westward Seafoods, Inc Hiring for Human Resources Manager-NV at Unalaska, AK Full Time

The Human Resources Manager provides support to the Northern Victor Production Facility Permanently Moored to a Pier by providing day-to-day assistance in employee relations, dispute resolution, benefits coordination, payroll assistance and other Human Resources areas. This position is responsible for addressing employee concerns as they arise and assuring appropriate resolutions in accord with Company policies and employment laws. Reports directly to the Plant Manager with dotted-line reporting to the Corporate Human Resources Vice President. This position is responsible for working collaboratively the Northern Victor leadership team to meet operational objectives.

• Directly interface with the Plant Manager on employee relations issues related to crew morale, policy enforcement, disciplinary issues, employee travel and training needs.
• Works with all Departments to ensure that the facility is fully staffed.
• Provide guidance and support for all employee matters including hiring, onboarding, discipline, coaching, termination and seasonal hiring and lay-off.
• Promote positive relations with employees.
• Conduct prompt and thorough investigations into employee issues and complaints and documents statements and findings.
• Provide guidance to supervisors regarding policy interpretation and enforcement.
• Coach supervisors in effectively engaging employees, in providing constructive performance feedback, in applying appropriate disciplinary action when warranted and in leading by example.
• Assist Safety personnel in facilitating light duty work accommodations.
• Act as a liaison between plant employees and the Corporate Benefits Manager by providing an overview of benefit programs, assisting employees in enrollment, and connecting employees with resources who help resolve benefits issues.
• Ensure is in full compliance with company policies and all local, State and Federal regulations. This includes maintaining required workplace posters in public areas.
• Administer workplace exit questionnaires at the end of the season and provide an aggregate of the responses to the Plant Manager.
• Escalate reports of serious employee matters to Corporate Human Resources including claims of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, supervisory misconduct and concerted activity.
• Prompt, reliable and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.
• 2 to 3 years of experience in the field of Human Resources, Employee Relations or other related area.
• Previous seafood production experience is preferred.
• Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
• Solid computer skills with Microsoft Office.
• Previous experience in a production workforce with onsite employee living accommodations.

• Ability to perform multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
• Proven ability to work cooperatively within all levels of a company as well as other site department managers to maintain a team-like atmosphere.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Prompt, reliable and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Able to work productively for 12 or more hours a day, 7 days a week.

• Must be able to live and work onsite in dormitory-style housing in a remote area of Alaska.

The Northern Victor facility is a permanently moored craft operating in Dutch Harbor, Alaska with a crew of 210 to 230 employees during peak fishing periods. Employees are engaged in processing Pollock and other groundfish species. This position is required to be on site during the Pollock A and B seasons.
