Position Focus:
The Yale School of the Environment seeks a creative, detail-oriented visual storyteller to join YSE’s Office of Communications; working as part of a highly productive team to illustrate the accomplishments of our students, faculty, alumni, and staff and the scale and scope of the work they are doing to address many of today’s most urgent environmental challenges and achieve a just and sustainable world for ourselves and future generations.
Reporting to the associate director of design and partnering with colleagues on the communications team and across YSE, the multimedia specialist will produce/build and manage the School’s library of strategic communications content such as photography, video (integrating still photos and infographics as appropriate), and audio content. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work closely with the associate director of design to improve digital asset operations; collaborating as needed with freelance videographers, photographers, and retouchers to ensure that the production process goes smoothly from the ingestion of raw shoots through editing, delivery, meta-tagging, and archiving of finished multimedia assets. Assists in sourcing photography and scheduling photoshoots. Oversees video-based projects from conception to completion. Conducts or manages video shoots (camera operation, lighting, audio recording and mixing); utilizing a wide array of products, such as RealMedia, Adobe Flash Video and QuickTime media, including encoding and live broadcast. Develop story ideas and storyboards/shot lists, directing, drafting/outlining, and organizing projects. Develop creative and innovative methods to package fresh and existing content in multiple formats tailored to the School’s various platforms — using video, podcasts, infographics, and other media as appropriate. Help plan and source editorial/social media content with multimedia and interactive components; works with assistant editor/social media manager to integrate video and audio storytelling into all YSE social media platforms. Advises staff, faculty, and students on multimedia content production/best practices and identifies opportunities to collaborate with colleagues around the university in developing engaging, informative multimedia content. Works with associate director of design and others on the communications team to ensure brand consistency on multimedia projects. Ensures brand alignment of video marketing metrics as needed; working with outside vendors as needed. Partner with web, editorial teams to analyze data and various measures of engagement to improve reach of content across channels.

Essential Duties:
1. Manages the production of computer-generated audio and video projects. 2. Teaches accredited classes pertinent to digital imaging for user departments. 3. Develops a curriculum for digital imaging at the DMCA consisting of a series of related workshops. 4. Provides leadership in the design, implementation and management of digital imaging technologies and their innovative application in teaching, learning and creative practice. 5. Provides training and supervision to users in the operation of facility resources and implementation of policies and procedures. 6. Responsible for the projection and deployment of the DMCA budget dedicated to the acquisition of graphics and imaging technology. 7. Researches, analyzes, and evaluates complex technical issues and independently implements appropriate solutions. 8. Tracks industry developments and recommends the purchase of new and/or updated technologies. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of relevant experience in digital media production and multimedia facility management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Demonstrated success in building/curating and managing a large library of different types of media assets.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Demonstrated success in managing photo and video shoots; and hands-on video production — storyboarding, scripting, and editing video segments to meet messaging requirements.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
???????Adobe Creative Cloud skills; (Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, and Illustrator).
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Demonstrated ability with video/audio hosting platforms such as Vimeo, Simplecast, Zoom, and YouTube.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Excellent organization, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work within deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a close collaborative team, with the initiative to identify and propose subjects/projects and able to manage a project from initial concept to final product.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in video production, digital media, film, or related field required. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in digital video/audio filming, production, and editing; demonstrated track record in creative execution and management is required. Background in producing multimedia for a non-profit organization (or comparable).
