The Assessor’s Office is seeking the ideal candidate to train and develop in assessing administration. This position will have both administrative responsibilities and appraiser responsibilities. Duties include a wide variety of administrative tasks such as high volume face-to-face and phone interaction, document management, data entry, routine correspondence, and acts as the department’s technical support liaison. The Property I Appraiser duties will include tasks such as assisting with the verification of the property record cards and sketches using computer assisted mass appraisal software, application of property tax assessment laws when processing transfer of ownerships and various exemption claims, verification of property tax descriptions and working with title companies to complete research pertaining to legal description discrepancies or tax estimates.This position will occasionally assist with field appraisal inspections, the annual canvassing of personal property by completing situs inspections of commercial businesses and auditing personal property statements. This position will also assist with conducting the sales studies by verifying, collecting, analyzing and compiling sales data in relation to all classes of property and preparing recommendations based on the findings. Accordingly, this individual may interview parties involved in real estate transactions.
The ideal candidate will possess a background of property assessment or the ability to train easily in addition to having advanced computer skills. Must possess excellent communication and strong organizational skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment under stressful conditions.
Michigan Certified Assessing Technician certification (MCAT) is required within 12 months of hire. Candidates should be proficient in MS Word/Excel with the ability to learn proprietary software quickly. Experience with BS&A Equalizer.net is a plus. Must possess excellent customer service, verbal and written skills. Must have HS diploma or equivalent, with associates degree and 3+ years related experience preferred. Prior experience in the assessment administration field is preferred.
The hours are Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM.
