Position Description
The Licensing Engineer is responsible for supporting the Xe-100 licensing efforts with the US NRC. You will lead portions of licensing application development and interface between the X-energy team (licensing, design and analysis engineers) and the US NRC. You also need to understand relevant topics in finance, environmental law, nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, and safeguards as applied to the Xe-100 reactor design.

Possess a good understanding of nuclear regulatory processes in the US and/or Canada
Demonstrated project management skills to develop schedules and coordinate team activities to produce technical content for regulatory purposes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Able to communicate and author technical content for regulatory purposes
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks/assignments and priorities effectively
Proficient in MS Office Suite applications and other relevant software
Demonstrated ability to communicate resolution of technical challenges
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Knowledge
Comprehensive knowledge, understanding and experience of NRC requirements and guidance documents, industry codes and standards, and licensing processes
Experience working under a quality assurance program such as NQA-1, DOE Order 414.1D, ISO-9000, etc
Experience developing technical documents for regulatory review
Knowledge of NRC requirements and guidance with special emphasis on documenting safety analyses, environmental characteristics, and probabilistic risk assessment information (highly desirable)
Experience and understanding of U.S. nuclear plant security requirements and guidance (Beneficial)
Location: Rockville, MD
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri

COVID-19 UPDATE – Our employees are generally working from home for the foreseeable future. Since the pandemic, we have hired employees that are working remotely and all are satisfied. Though this concept is evolving, we currently expect new hires to relocate to the metropolitan area and be able to come into the office at least on an infrequent basis at some point in the intermediate future. In the longer run, we expect to formally adopt a blended model of retaining an office and allowing employees to work from home a significant part of the time provided we are satisfied with individual work rates and strong team results. As a general manner we expect all positions centered out of our Rockville Headquarters to live an work within commuting distance.
