2022 Summer Program Information
COVID-19 and Health Care at Programs
The National Hispanic Institute, a private, non-profit organization, in cooperation with the Schreiner University, proudly hosts the Texas Great Debate on July 10-17, 2022 on the campus in Kerrville. NHI has worked to organize about 250 highschool age students and volunteers to participate in this residential experience.
NHI Board Policy is requiring that all participants, volunteers, and staff take precautions to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. A variety of mitigation strategy NPRs are in place. The first step is to dramatically reduce the possibility of bringing students to the campus location that may have COVID-19. Before students arrive to the campus, they are required to be vaccinated and to submit to NHI a negative, COVID-19 PCR test or submit to a rapid antigen test upon arrival.
NHI seeks medical assistants who can help students administer self-Rapid COVID tests. Furthermore, the goal is to read and report the results to NHI’s assigned staff.
NHI will also provide staff support to assist with organizing the students for testing, providing paperwork, and providing overall support to the Testers.
Eligibility: Must be fully vaccinated. Must have a minimal Medical Assistant credential.
Role
*Guiding participants and volunteers to conduct self-administered rapid tests with attendees upon arrival.
*Interpreting results and providing this information to NHI personnel for further action.
*Making sure that bio-waste is properly deposited into bio-hazard bags (provided by NHI)
*Making sure the area is clean and is cleaned before, during, and after testing with proper disinfecting supplies.
Support
NHI will provide support staff to help students form in lines, wear masks, maintain physical distancing, and control lines/questions.
Payment
NHI will pay COVID testers $25/hour for 8 hours of time, or $200 per person, to administer tests. Testers should fill out a W9 for payment and will be paid immediately upon successfully concluding the testing. Testers who do not show up to complete the process will not be paid.
