The Learning and Development Manager position provides critical direction and oversight in creating and establishing Billerud NA’s Transformation Program training systems. As Billerud NA expands into additional sustainable product lines, it is critical to establish governance around everything from talent selection to team structure, to on-the-job, to leadership training. Additionally, the Learning and Development Manager would collaborate with the larger Transformation Project Team and the Global Management System Team as well as work very closely with Billerud NA’s manufacturing locations. In this forward thinking role, you will work with cross functional teams comprised of members from Billerud’s global team to implement and lead the training program for our business-wide Transformation.
Key Accountabilities:
Promote and lead a safe work environment.
Assure environmental, health and safety compliance with the objective of achieving zero incidents.
Assess current work processes in Billerud NA’s manufacturing locations and collaborate with the Transformation Program Team to develop and implement the training strategy needed to support the transformation.
Assist with development of the workflow process in the department(s) impacted by the Transformation Program.
Develop an “On The Job Training” system to support the Transformation Program, including, but not limited to, structure, rotation, documentation of proficiency and a certification process.
Support the development of the promotion and job bidding processes with respect to hourly positions, across the business, in collaboration with the HR Teams and leadership.
Determine best approach and structure for training salaried employees to manage in flexible work environments.
Maintain knowledge of new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the Transformation Program.
Ensure that training milestones and goals are met while adhering to approved training budget.
Work with and support the Billerud NA Leadership Team, the Environmental, Health and Safety Teams, and Operational Teams at the Escanaba, Quinnesec and Wisconsin Rapids facilities
Foster and encourage teamwork relationships between the mills and corporate (both NA and Globally).
Required Skills
Minimum Required Skills:
Possess a strong interest in employee training and development, and be proficient in moderating large groups
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills with a structured approach to problem solving
Adept at taking initiative and driving results
Strong internal drive to work independently, but also enjoys working on a team
Goal oriented
Demonstrated strong leadership and motivational skills including the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel
An ability to lead through influence
Preferred Skills:
Experience managing teams, preferably cross functional teams.
Proven track record of designing and executing successful learning and development programs.
Understanding of pulp, paper and packaging processes
Experience with system implementation
Required Experience
Minimum Required Experience and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, communications, education or related field
Preferably 7+ years of experience within the human resources/training sector or the pulp and paper manufacturing industry
A passion to be a changemaker in the area of employee training by challenging conventional processes and driving continuous improvement.
Travel:
Travel between the manufacturing facilities and NA Corporate office will be done on a regular basis and international travel to Sweden might occur.
