The Orleans County Department of Personnel has a current vacancy for a Personnel Assistant. Subject to Civil Service examination. Civil Service applications for the position must be submitted directly to the Orleans County Personnel Office.
The Personnel Assistant performs a wide variety of moderately difficult and widely varied personnel-related clerical duties relating to personnel functions. The Personnel Assistant has responsibility for much of the routine day-to-day operation of the operation of the office including the maintenance of civil service records, and serving as a contact for public employers, employees and public relative to civil service matters. Work is performed under the general supervision of and in accordance with, policies and guidelines established by the Personnel Officer. Direct supervision by a higher level position. Considerable leeway is allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in the carrying out of assignments. An employee in this class is required to employ the highest degree of discretion to insure the confidentiality of departmental records. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet one of the following minimum requirements.
Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education AND:
(A) Possession of an Bachelor’s Degree in public or business administration, labor relations, political science or closely related field business, from a regionally accredited college or university, plus one year of full-time paid experience in public or private personnel administration; OR:
(B) Possession of an Associate’s Degree in public or business administration, labor relations, political science or closely related field business, from a regionally accredited college or university, plus three years of full-time paid experience in public or private personnel administration; OR:
(C) Five years of full-time, paid clerical experience; including at least three year of experience in public or private personnel administration; OR:
(D) An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating the ability to perform the duties of the job.
