Conducts title examinations by searching public records and reviewing, abstracting, and digesting pertinent information from land transfer documents and records to verify or determine ownership of land; reviews and summarizes pertinent information affecting land ownership or titles from sources that are readily available and conditions of titles that are relatively clear; and performs other related duties as required.
There is one (1) immediate, permanent full-time vacancy with the Department of Finance – Real Property Tax Division in Hilo.
This Abstracting Assistant II position is a career ladder position. The next level in the series is Abstractor I, SR-15, $3,884/month. Persons hired into career ladder positions must meet minimum qualifications for the next level in the career ladder series, perform work at the higher level, and meet performance requirements to move to the next level in the career ladder series.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.

Ability to: Analyze and determine the nature and effect of legal documents and abstract pertinent information therefrom; understand legal words and phrases used in conveyances; organize and prepare clear, accurate, complete and concise briefs of legal documents; operate a personal computer and use applicable real property software programs; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; deal tactfully and effectively with other employees and the public.
