Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) is seeking an Assistant Emergency Manager to support the professional execution of Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) Emergency Management (EM) efforts. It helps to coordinate TPU’s incident response efforts across the utility and with the City of Tacoma (City) and others.
Under the direction of the TPU Emergency Manager, and in collaboration with other TPU and City Emergency Managers, this position helps coordinate, develop, and sometimes lead, emergency plan development, TPU exercises and training and will represent TPU in partnership efforts outside of TPU and the City.
Primary Responsibilities Include:

Backup Emergency Management Liaison & Backup TPU Emergency Manager
Minimum Education*
Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, homeland security, business or public administration or directly related field
Minimum Experience*
2 years of experience in emergency management
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
FEMA Incident Command System 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 & 800 Training
Washington State Driver’s License

The Tacoma Public Library is not a department of the City of Tacoma and the Library’s employees are not employees of the City. The Library is a separate entity with its own governing body. The Library’s governing body is the Tacoma Public Library Board of Trustees.
Employees of the City of Tacoma who accept employment with the Tacoma Public Library will lose their City of Tacoma employee seniority. They will also find that their leave accruals, and some of the benefits enjoyed as employees of the City of Tacoma do not carry over when they are hired for a position with the Tacoma Public Library.
