Athena Actuarial Consulting Hiring for HR Generalist at Remote Full Time

The Company: Athena Actuarial Consulting is a woman-owned consulting firm providing actuarial and analytical services across government, non-profit and corporate sectors. The firm was founded in August 2020 with the intention to scale quickly and intentionally from a one-person shop to a small employer focused on growing a diverse workforce. Athena’s emphasis on empowering women and other underrepresented groups is paired with strong technical expertise in the areas of retirement actuarial services, health actuarial services, data analytics, and data-driven decision-making. The Position: We are looking for an HR Generalist who is interesting in joining a mission-driven, people-first start-up organization. This exciting role will be well-suited for someone who is energized both by long-term people & culture strategy as well as boots-on-the-ground execution. Every day will feel different as you work closely with other functions to set the ATHENA team up for success.

In the HR Generalist role, you will report to the Operations Lead and collaborate across all functions to develop and implement ATHENA’s people strategy. You will be responsible for designing and establishing key employee policies and employee experience processes from the ground up that cultivate a positive work environment, and training staff on how to incorporate these policies into their daily tasks.

This is a paid, salaried, remote position. Employee will have the opportunity to set their working schedule based on their preference for virtual work vs. in-person office work at our downtown office.

Responsibilities:
Operations

• Supports organization staff by owning and managing the employee lifecycle including recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; counseling managers on candidate selection; performance review management; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; and recommending changes to the overall employee experience where applicable
• Collaborates with Operations to improve processes and systems to ensure every aspect of the employee lifecycle is optimized
• Handles workplace escalations, investigations, disciplinary, and termination procedures while maintaining employee and workplace privacy. Resolves conflicts through positive and professional mediation
• Evaluates, integrates, and manages vendors and technologies associated with Human Resources and People Operations

Compliance

• Manages the process for creating and maintaining Human Resources Standard Operating Procedures; enforces management guidelines by developing, updating, and communicating human resource policies and procedures
• Keep abreast of changes in laws, regulations and guidelines ensuring the company complies with all state and federal workplace regulations. The ideal candidate will have knowledge around all legal requirements in HR and will have access to company HR subscriptions to stay up-to-date
• Manage all leave of absence notices and requests from employees in collaboration with our leave of absence TPA, including interfacing with them as needed and maintaining documentation in accordance with applicable legal requirements

General Human Resources

• Collaborates with the leadership team to create and drive the company’s people strategy that enables a “people first” culture, helping ATHENA to mobilize its values
• Support the strategy of the company’s total rewards programs, i.e. compensation and health benefits; works to manage and communicate all total reward programs appropriately
• Collaborate with communications coordinator to implement people-first, thoughtful communications around HR issues and opportunities
• Support the development of Athena’s HR function in the coming years, including the addition of HR analysts and other supporting roles
• Maintains the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions
• Participate in Athena strategy meetings and provide feedback on Athena community initiatives
• Demonstrate exemplary level of personal and professional integrity, and ability to support and promote Athena’s mission and values

Location: This position is remote, with those located in Minneapolis having the option to work at Athena’s headquarters. Depending on the state of travel due to the pandemic, 2-4 opportunities to travel for team building and in-person work weeks per year may be requested but not necessarily required.

Please note that proof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required for employees wishing to travel for in-person team meetings (unless there is a religious or medical exemption).

Candidates must be a US citizen or permanent resident.

Requirements:

• Ideal candidates have 5-7 years of demonstrated experience in HR role
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Knowledge around legal requirements in HR
• Creative problem-solving skills to identify flexible solutions to business questions
• Insatiable curiosity and interest in learning new things
• Demonstrated commitment to Athena’s mission, vision, and values
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Human Resources, Business Management or a related field

Nice to Have:

• PHR (Professional in HR) or SPHR (Senior PHR) designation
• Experience with Gusto, BreezyHR and/or Asana
• Experience working in a consulting firm
• Experience with professional conflict resolution
• Completion of HR Certification Program(s)

Cash compensation range: $80,000-$98,000 USD Annually, with annual bonus opportunity of 10-20%
