There are currently several part-time vacancies within our Community Resources Department . The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be valid for up to a year and will be used to fill these vacancies and can be used for future vacancies as they occur.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position may be assigned to work either Day Camp, Recreation, and/or Pool Swim hours for the duration of the season.
Day Camp Hours through August 12, 2022
Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Recreation Hours through August 12, 2022
2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
Special Events TBD
Pool Hours through August 26, 2022

Senior Center Hours are continuous

Recreation Leader is a part-time position with the Recreation Department of the City of Azusa. The person in this position does skilled recreation work in directing a wide variety of activities at an assigned park, playground or recreational area. The employee plans, directs, and co-ordinates various activities at an assigned area where responsibilities may include supervision of subordinate personnel. The employee receives general instruction and supervision from the Recreation Supervisor concerning various programs to be administered. The employee also aids in the training of subordinates, issues and accounts for recreational and athletic equipment of the assigned area. The employee must maintain accurate attendance and activity records, make oral and written reports as required and must have the ability to work effectively with superiors, subordinates and the public; and does related work as required.
Essential Functions
Leads and supervises various activities in an assigned park, playground or recreational area; coordinates activities related to recreational programs of the City; participates in activities as a coach or leader; aids in training personnel in the leading and supervision of activities; organizes issues and accounts for recreational and athletic equipment; may be required to administer simple first aid; settles minor disputes among children and with parents; discusses minor problems with parents and other adults; prepares reports.
May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
Qualified candidates must be eighteen (18) years of age. Must obtain One (1) year of experience in Recreation, Coaching, Customer Service, Physical Education, Arts and Crafts, and Senior Programs/Senior Services is preferred. Must be willing and eligible to take an American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and AED for the Professional Rescuer course or obtain similar certifications from the American Heart Association at time of hire.
A valid California ID or Driver’s License
A T.B. clearance is required as part of the physical and background process.
All certifications must be current and obtained by the time of hire.
Special Requirements/Physical, Mental, Environmental Conditions
This position may require sitting, standing, and walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements above and below shoulder level in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and acute hearing is required when providing face-to-face service. The need to lift and carry supplies and other materials weighing up to 30 pounds is also required; however, may need to lift and carry up to 50 pounds depending on assigned duties. Additionally, the incumbent in this position may work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations. Other assignments may also require public speaking and/or computer proficiency.

Part-time employees are paid an hourly rate based on hours worked and typically work 19 hours or less per week. The City of Azusa does not pay into Social Security, so part-time employees are enrolled in the Accumulation Program for Part-Time and Limited-Service Employees (APPLE). Part-time employees pay 3.75% of wages into this retirement program and the City matches the employee’s (3.75% of wages) share.
Paid Sick Leave:
Effective July 1, 2015, part-time employees accrue sick leave beginning with the first full pay period of employment on the basis of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked. The maximum accrual per year is 48 hours. A waiting period of 90 days is required before an employee may be eligible to use paid sick leave. Although paid sick leave can be carried over year to year, an employee can only accumulate up to a maximum of 48 hours and may use up to 24 hours in any one year.
This position is not covered by any other medical benefits.
Part-time employees are not considered to be part of the City of Azusa Merit and Civil Service System and are thus designated as non-classified employees. Part-time employees are “at will” employees and, as such, may be terminated at any time without any right of appeal.
