The Senior Geographic Information System Support Technician leads, supports, and assists GIS staff in the provision of notification services and mapping/graphics services utilizing the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS). Maintains and provides accurate information for use by citizens and City staff and modifies, maintains, and updates the official zoning maps for the City.
Essential Functions
1 Leads provision of legal notification research and processing within required time frame to meet State of Texas requirements; oversees and leads case preparation and management; works with surveyors, attorneys, civil engineers, and other staff to collect property descriptions and perform specific case research.
2 Assigns and delegates mapping/graphics projects to other staff technicians to provide quality presentation materials for use by the Planning staff; Uses advanced editing tools in GIS, inputs metes and bounds property
descriptions and draws the polygons by referencing other features in GIS such as aerial imagery, plats features, or copies of official recorded plats.
3 Oversees and leads the communication and notification of property description information requested by property owners; evaluates and checks the work of other technicians and ensures all drawings are accurate per the request; maintains master list of property owners and ensures appropriate notification and case management.
4 Responds to requests for information and map reproductions from other City departments, citizens, and government agencies in order to expedite services; provides cost estimates of requested work to City staff and outside agencies.
5 Leads tracking, updating, and maintenance of official City zoning maps, posting of new subdivisions, and annexations to reflect changes to the City’s zoning base maps.
6 Drafts, reviews, and compiles agenda items to be presented to City Council and City Plan Commission; ensures all GIS mapping, zoning, and property descriptions adhere to regulations, development codes, and plans.
7 Conducts and coordinates land use studies on large scale property ownership requested by City Council, City Manager’s Office, and other City departments; updates, edits, and maintains zoning databases and GIS making adjustments and updates as required.
8 Leads in custom property owner requests and custom map requests; handles special notification requests from citizens, other City employees, and department as necessary; performs research and training as needed.
9 Assists, supports, and leads in developing new procedures and processes for integrating GIS into the property owner notification process.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in GIS or related field.
EQUIVALENCIES:
An associate’s degree in a computer science, GIS, MIS or related field plus one (1) year experience working with GIS and related software will meet the education and experience requirements.
High school diploma or GED or unrelated degree plus three (3) years experience working with GIS and related software will meet the education and experience requirements.
OTHER REQUIREMENT(S):
Must pass an intensive background investigation and drug test.
No FELONY or Class A MISDEMEANOR convictions.
No Class B MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last ten (10) years.
No family violence convictions.
Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any FELONY, Class A or Class B MISDEMEANOR.
PREFERENCES:
Experience with one (1) or more programming languages commonly used in the customization of GIS applications (Python, C#, VB) is a plus.

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
