DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Airport Communications Center (ACC) business unit at William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) of the Houston Airport System (HAS) centralizes activities and focuses on the end-to-end business processes of the airport which creates operational efficiencies, eliminates duplication of efforts, monitors critical and non-critical systems, supports customer service, tenants and stakeholder’s interests, and provides critical information to improve resiliency during irregular and emergency events.
The Airport Communications Supervisor position supervises the day-to-day operational activities in the HOU Airport Communications Center to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and the delivery of customer and operational services. The Airport Communications Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining full situational awareness of all aspects of airport operations to ensure the safe, efficient, secure and seamless flow for passengers using our roadways, terminals, and commercial transportation operations and mitigate operational delays, and/or negative impacts to customers, tenants and airlines. “Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required.”
The Airport Communications Supervisor duties include but are not limited to:

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and/or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An Associate’s degree in Social Science, General Studies, Business Administration or a closely related field is required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two years of experience as a Senior Telecommunicator in a major airport terminal handling a variety of communication activities or in a related major facility handling a variety of communications equipment are required.
Experience as a Senior Telecommunicator in a major airport terminal handling a variety of communication activities or in a related major facility handling a variety of communication equipment may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to applicants with experience and considerable knowledge of FAA, DHS, CBP, and TSA rules and regulations involved in the monitoring of airport and air carrier operations and security activities. Ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively, often in tense situations, with all levels of internal and external customers. Personal Computer experience with Windows and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge in the area of law enforcement, security, military, airport operations, emergency communications or related work. A certification in emergency communications & response, 911 dispatch certificates a plus. Prior supervisory experience in law enforcement, security, military, airport operations, emergency communications or related work is preferred.
