City of Mt. Vernon Police Civilian Dispatcher/Telecommunicator – FULL-time position – 40 hours per week. Required to work mainly nights, weekends & holidays. $22.06 (hourly rate + holiday pay). There will be a 2.5% increase in pay when the EMD certificate is acquired. The hourly rate will increase yearly. Good communication skills required; clear speaking voice, free of speech impediments; ability to hear and distinguish voices on the radio traffic; ability to become certified as a LEADS operator; ability to obtain Emergency Medical Dispatch certification; ability to work efficiently in emergency situations; and ability to pass thorough background security check performed by Police Department personnel.
· $22.06 per hour (hourly rate + holiday pay)
· Time and one half for hours worked on holidays
· 96 hours of holiday pay (96 hours of straight time pay in addition to regular straight time pay to be divided over 26 pay periods)
· 2.5% addition to base pay once EMD certification received to be divided over 26 pay periods.

JOB TITLE: Telecommunicator – Police Department
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
Under the administrative direction of the Police Chief or designee, this individual receives, monitors, transmits and relays calls for emergency services; operates emergency telephones, radio, and related teletype equipment; maintains records of all communication transactions; obtains and processes confidential records and related information commonly used in criminal investigations and related situations.
HOURS OF WORK
Telecommunicators are scheduled to work per bargaining unit agreement. Evening, night, holidays, and weekend work is part of a scheduled workweek. FLSA Classification is non-exempt.

REQUIREMENTS
Education
· Ability to pass oral interview to determine communication skills.
· Requires high school diploma or general equivalency degree
· Must be certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch, LEADS, and CPR
Experience
· Experience in dealing with the general public on a one-on-one basis.
· Working knowledge of the geography of the City of Mt. Vernon.
· Ability to organize duties and produce results in a timely manner.
· Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
· Strict confidentiality in daily duties.
· Ability to successfully pass a background security and credit check.

· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the general public and fellow employees.
· Ability to pass vision and hearing exam with or without accommodations.
· Appear and testify in court when subpoenaed
