The Position
The Office of Councilmember Ronaldo Fierro seeks a highly-organized, detail-oriented candidate to serve as a Council Assistant, Part-Time (Non-Classified) to fill one (1) vacancy in the City Council Office.
This entry-level position primarily entails serving the constituents of the Third Ward of the City of Riverside through performing a wide variety of highly responsible administrative and field support duties for the Member of the City Council, including attending community events, processing and handling constituent casework, coordinating communications with internal departments, and performing other duties as assigned.
Work Performed
Constituent Casework: Receive, respond to, in person, by phone, and email to residents, business representatives, school officials, and community group’s communications, and make appropriate referrals with respect to city department services, and state/federal district offices. Respond to letters and general correspondence of a routine nature for the City Council.
Field Representative: Attend, schedule and seek out community meetings, business grand-openings, and staff the Member at events in the district as determined by the Office. Brief Councilmember regarding feedback from community programs, events, and other meetings as scheduled.
Administrative Duties: Manage and maintain the Member’s Calendar and coordinate and schedule appointments, meetings and community events for the Member. Assist in the preparation of newsletters, email blasts, speeches, and talking points. Liaison with internal City departments on as needed basis.
Policy Research: Maintain a pulse on State, Federal and Local Government Legislation and its impact on the City of Riverside. Assist the Office in researching and compiling reports and local policy actions aligned with the Member’s strategic vision and goals.
Qualifications
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by business or communications related courses.
Experience: Three years of experience performing highly responsible administrative and/or field related duties involving customer/client/community relations.
Highly Desired Qualifications
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate, valid class “C” California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
Must be willing to work a changing and flexible schedule, that include day-time, evening, and week-end hours, as required.
