Performs public relations functions to support routine city issues and services including coordinating with other departments to promote city activities such as recreation events and stormwater awareness.
Maintains website calendar to include all community events. Facilitates scheduling of tours of city facilities or projects under development for citizens and school groups. Performs other work as required.
Primary Job Challenges
Ensuring that the electronic content for the city is continuously relevant and up-to-date.
Establishing relationships with local business and community leaders to promote the city”s mission, vision, events, and services. Maintaining a positive public image for the city and its departments. Planning the communications strategy for emergencies that may occur with city departments including utilities. Staying current with public relations trends and technologies to effectively reach citizens with the city”s message. Qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelor”s Degree in public relations, communications, or a related field desired; 2-3 years of experience in public affairs/relations, media relations, or communications preferred; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the required knowledge and abilities.
Required Certifications/Licenses: Must possess a valid Class D driver license issued by the State of Tennessee. Must pass a drug screen and physical examination based on the essential functions of the job given by the city”s designated physician.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED – Knowledge of the basic concepts and principles of media and public relations.
Knowledge of various social media outlets and how to effectively use each.
Knowledge of audio/visual equipment and principles as they pertain to public relations.
Ability to write and communicate at an advanced, professional level.
Ability to make decisions quickly and in accordance with city, state and departmental policies.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with business leaders and members of community groups.
Ability to use a personal computer with Microsoft Office and variety of software applications.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly, both orally and in writing.
Ability to use the required computer equipment, software and audiovisual equipment.
Ability to operate and maintain the required vehicular equipment.
Physical Requirements
Employee will work both indoors and outdoors and will sit, stand, stoop, walk, and lift light objects (less than 25pounds).
Work is generally performed in an office setting; however; some outdoor work may be required. Additional Information
