As an HR/LR Representative, you will perform all HR generalist functions including administering HR policies and procedures, compensation, recruiting/hiring, performance management, workforce planning, career development, employee relations and investigations. The position will focus on improving business results by providing advice and counsel to management on union-related matters, including interpretation and administration of the collective bargaining agreement. Frequent independent judgment is essential.
The ideal candidate will perform both transactional work and strategic responsibilities working alongside the HR/LR team and the client leadership teams to ensure an engaged and diverse workforce with equal opportunities. This position will initially reside at Tek and Kote (New Carlisle, IN) with the expectation that it could reside at Indiana Harbor (East Chicago, IN) or Burns Harbor, IN after training.
REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive):
Provide HR generalist support for all matters.
Support corporate safety initiatives.
Maintain active involvement and interaction with local union representatives and departmental management to help foster a positive labor/management relationship.
Conduct new hire orientation, facilitate onboarding process, enter new hire data in HRIS.
Manage annual open-enrollment of health care and optional plans, from creation of the open enrollment packet with input from providers to communicating final elections to Payroll for processing.
Manage all HRIS-related tasks, including writing reports and queries and maintaining overall HR system integrity.
Track team members’ progress through Skills Matrices, process hourly Skills Matrix-related rate increases and enter data accordingly into HRIS
Investigate and resolve employee complaints on discrimination and harassment cases. Write investigation reports and make HR recommendations for resolution.
Perform research needed to support Human Resources projects/initiatives. Examples: compile data on absenteeism policies of similar companies, research a benefit plan or the CBA to find information to support a management position.
Manage the bargaining unit job posting and placement process.
Maintain employment records and computer systems to compile statistical reports concerning personnel-related data such as hires, transfers, and performance appraisals.
Provide advice, preparation and presentation of Company positions during grievance procedures, arbitration proceedings or other labor negotiation proceedings
Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Strong Analytical skills
A self-starter who display motivation and enthusiasm
Strong in change management and problem solving
Ability to obtain a working knowledge of federal, state and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: NLRA, EEO, ADA, FLSA, FMLA and USERRA.
Preferred:
Degree in Human Resources or Business related field
Experience in manufacturing and union environment.
For the exceptional candidate, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Demonstrated knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements.
