To participate and lead a crew in a variety of custodial, set-up, and maintenance work in preparing for and cleaning up after events at the Convention Center Complex.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
A Community Center Attendant II is distinguished from a Community Center Attendant I in that the former is responsible for coordinating and leading a crew in various custodial, set-up, and maintenance duties at the Convention Center Complex.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by a Supervising Community Center Attendant higher level personnel.
Assignments include providing direct supervision of Community Center Attendants and lower-level staff.
TYPICAL DUTIES
– Acts in a lead capacity over subordinates.
– Maintains records and inventory of equipment and supplies.
– Sets up and takes down heavy equipment such as boxing and wrestling rings, basketball standards, and related equipment for various athletic events.
– Sets up and arranges chairs, tables, and other furniture for banquets, conventions, concerts, and other events according to specified arrangements charts and plans or oral directions.
– Performs various custodial duties such as sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, washing windows, cleaning restrooms, and vacuuming carpets.
– Performs minor repair on equipment and facilities involving simple carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical work.
– Operates a variety of hand and power tools used in event set-ups and in maintaining and cleaning buildings and facilities.
– Operates forklift, pick-up truck or other City equipment.
– Starts and stops low pressure boilers and heating and ventilating systems.
– Cleans filters on air conditioning boilers and heating and ventilating systems.
– Cleans filters on air conditioning and heating units.
– Other related duties may also be performed; not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual holding this classification.
Knowledge of:
– The materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in cleaning building.
– Use and purposes of common hand and power tools used in custodial and maintenance work.
– Cleaning solvents, soaps, waxes, and other related chemicals used in custodial work.
– Principles of supervision, training, and evaluation.
Ability to:
– Lead work crews in a variety of custodial, set-up, and minor maintenance work in preparing for events at the Center.
– Read, comprehend, and convey information in technical manuals concerning various equipment used in set-up at the Center.
– Keep simple records and prepare necessary reports.
– Set up stage and related facilities for a variety of events including concerts, banquets, and meeting.
– Perform routine building maintenance tasks, involving minor repairs on equipment and facilities.
– Learn to perform “fly” work and work at considerable heights, climb ladders to fly floors and grids.
– Learn to operate forklift and flying tiger.
– Follow simple oral or written instructions.
– Perform basic arithmetic computations.
– Work independently without immediate supervision.
– Read and write the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two years of custodial and building maintenance work, including a minimum of one year in a lead capacity.
Education:
None required.
Substitution:
Successful completion of an approved custodial skills training program may substitute for one year of experience.
PROOF OF EDUCATION
Should education be used to qualify for this position, then proof of education such as, but not limited to, university/college transcripts and degrees should be submitted with your application and will be required at the time of appointment. Unofficial documents and/or copies are acceptable.
An applicant with a college degree obtained outside the United States must have education records evaluated by a credentials evaluation service. Evaluation of education records will be due at time of appointment.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License at the time of appointment. Loss of the Class C License is cause for discipline. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
Employees must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.

2. Screening Committee: (Pass/Fail)– All applications received by the final filing deadline will be forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. Human Resources will only evaluate employment applications for the minimum qualifications, as stated on the job announcement, for applications selected by the hiring department.
3. Online Exam: (Weighted 100%) – Candidates must have taken and passed the online examination with a score of 70% or higher by 11:59 p.m. on July 18, 2022 for further consideration. The online examination will be job related and may include, but not limited to, the knowledge and abilities as outlined above. 4. Eligibility: Candidates who pass the online examination will be placed on the eligible list. The hiring department may contact candidates for interview at any time during the life of the one-year list. Candidate’s eligibility expires year from the date of notification of a passing score for the Community Center Attendant II examination. Candidates can take the examination at any time to maintain eligibility.
If you are currently on an active eligible list for the Community Center Attendant II classification, it is unnecessary to retake the examination.
The eligible list is effective one year from the date of passing the examination for the Community Center Attendant II.
If you are hired from the eligible list you will no longer have active status on the eligible list per CSB Rule, 5.7(i). Applicants interested in maintaining their eligibility will need to take and pass the exam after their hire date.
5. Conditional Hire: Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass LiveScan/fingerprinting; and provide proof of receiving a complete COVID-19 vaccination. If applicable, candidates may also need to pass a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and/or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
