The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Vote Center Representatives (Office Assistant I) to assist in the upcoming 2022 Statewide Direct Primary Election. Vote Centers offer in-person voting, voter registration and additional services to the public up to a month before the election. This position requires the ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment, learn computer applications/software quickly and accurately and serve members of the public.
We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time position of Vote Center Representative to be hired for the following duties:
Use an iPad tablet to verify voter eligibility.
Provide information about the current election.
Guide voters on use of electronic ballot marking devices.
Operate office equipment including Windows Laptops, printers and iPad tablets.
Provide in-person voter assistance to register to vote and cast a ballot.
Issue ballots using Windows laptops.
Maintain accurate files and records.
Secure Election materials and supplies to maintain the integrity of the election.
Several positions require fluency in Burmese, Cantonese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Tagalog/Filipino. Please indicate in your application if you are fluent in any of these languages.
Vote Centers will be open for two, four, eleven, and thirty days. Those hired can expect to work approximately 7 – 15 days including training and onboarding. The election will be held June 7, 2022.
Representatives will work 8 hours per day once the site opens. Typical hours are 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the addition of at least one weekend (June 4 – 5) and Memorial Day (May 30). This assignment will include one setup day of at least four hours before opening the location. On Election Day, Vote Center Representatives will work from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. or later.
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment. Hourly wage starts at: $21.65
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of one year of general clerical, office assistant, phone services or computer experience, experience with customer service and a close attention to detail.
The position requires basic addition and subtraction. Vote Center representatives must be proficient in the operation of a Windows computer, computer software and applications.
Applicants with experience as Poll Workers or Vote Center Representatives are strongly encouraged to apply.
Three Vote Center locations will open thirty days before election day. Additional Vote Center locations will open ten, four, and one day before election day.
Critical skills for all Vote Center positions include the ability to prioritize work, coordinate several activities, organize and maintain accurate files and records and understand and carry out oral and written directions.
