Through the lens of racial equity, the Human Services Department (HSD), a department of the City of Seattle, funds and operates programs and services that meet the basic needs of the most vulnerable people in our community – families and individuals with low incomes, children, domestic violence and sexual assault victims, people experiencing homelessness, seniors, and persons with disabilities.
The Youth and Family Empowerment Division is seeking a Curriculum and Content Specialist for the Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The Curriculum and Content Specialist (CCS) supports the design and development of the program’s Learn and Earn program curriculum and other program-related training initiatives. SYEP serves youth and young adults ages 16 – 24 who live in the city of Seattle from low-income households and communities that experience racial, social, and economic disparities and helps them to prepare for entry-level roles through its Learn and Earn program as well as the Internship Program. And that through these programs, these youth and young adults will have an equitable chance in pursuing higher paid careers and ones that are meaningful to them.
In late 2022, SYEP launched its newly adapted Learn and Earn program, namely, Foundations and Pathways Learn and Earn. The program focuses on providing youth and young adults the option to not only learn soft skills (i.e., problem solving, time management, code-switching, etc.,) (Foundations) but to also gain tangible tools—portfolio development, job shadowing, mentoring, credential attainment—to facilitate entry into their chosen career pathway (Pathways). To this end, SYEP is seeking a skilled, professional to help build out its Foundations and Pathways model, through curriculum and content development. The CCS will build upon existing data and training materials within SYEP and use research and other modalities to enhance existing material while also creating new material. The CCS will partner with internal and external stakeholders to help inform the development of the curriculum and provide timely feedback and updates to those served. In addition, the CCS will support in training and development opportunities for staff members, and help facilitate sessions as needed.
