JOB TITLE: HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt SALARY LEVEL: $17.02‑$23.97/hour
PROGRAM: Administration HOURS: 30 hours/week

SUPERVISOR: Director of Human Resources CLASSIF. TYPE: Part‑time
SUMMARY: Assists Director of Human Resources in administering human resources activities, such as employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
5. Processes employment applications and assists with onboarding new employees from application to hiring process, which includes fingerprints, physicals, TB tests, drug screening if applicable.
6. Assists in other employment activities and distribution of miscellaneous employment information to employees that complies with legal timelines, such as FMLA, CFRA, pregnancy leave, workers’ compensation, FLSA, EEOC.
7. Prepares various personnel action notices, performance evaluations, and correspondence.
8. Updates employee files and computer database to document personnel actions and to provide information for payroll, attendance, performance evaluations and licensing/non licensing requirements and other uses.
9. Examines employee files to answer inquiries and provides information to authorized persons.
10. Compiles data from personnel records and prepares reports for program directors and supervisors.
11. Compiles and maintains records for use in employee benefits administration.
12. Prepares and files reports of accidents and injuries at establishment.
13. Assists in other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.
14. Assist with the Safety program and work with Directors and Managers in tracking, providing and following up on safety related information, developing and presenting training information for management and other employees to ensures related safety initiatives are followed.
15. Maintain benefits such as Medical, Dental, Aflac and Cal-savers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Positions Supervised: None.
BENEFITS: Paid vacation, sick leave and holidays according to personnel policies. Health insurance is provided for regular employees scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week within 90 days of employment.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college in a related business field; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of people we serve or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certification of TB clearance, physical exam, and fingerprint clearance.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Basic understanding of principles, practices, and techniques of public personnel administration; knowledge of modern office methods and business correspondence; ability to give attention to timelines and detail; ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, delays, or unexpected events; and the ability to maintain a computer database.
