Reporting to the HR Manager, the scope is to serve as a liaison and business partner with employees and management supporting in the day-to-day administration of the HR functions; including payroll, benefits, personnel records, recruiting/staffing, onboarding, employee relations, safety, training, and company policies. Must exercise the utmost discretion in sensitive and confidential matters.
Essential Functions:
Assist the team with the recruiting process, including posting jobs, screening candidates, scheduling and conducting interviews, and pre-employment testing process
Assist with new hire orientations, applicant/employee status change, and termination paperwork
Be a champion for employee & workplace safety
Maintain accurate and confidential human resource files, including personnel, benefits, medical, payroll, recruiting and affirmative action
Support employee coaching, recognition and discipline activities
Assist with personnel issues and policy interpretation
Assist with safety and HR related training and tracking as needed
Coordinate community involvement and employee events, including company newsletter
Provide support for various HR audits, projects, mailings, employee communication, etc.
Assist with administering employee benefits including enrollment, new hire orientation and premium payment reconciliation and processing
Resolve benefits, claims and eligibility questions with vendors and employees as needed
Assist with the processing and administration of leave of absence requests
Support HR Manager with employee related investigations
Maintain compliance with all company, state, and federal rules and regulations
Administer employee wellness program and coordinate activities
Consistently work at acceptable production levels
Other duties as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field is strongly preferred, while experience can be supplemented for education.
High School Diploma or GED is required
HR Certification (SHRM / PHR) is strongly preferred, but not required
Some direct Human resources, payroll and/or benefits administration experience is required
Knowledge of human resources concepts, compliance and legal requirements including federal, state & local employment laws
Experience with a Human Resource Information System, preferably UKG
Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Excellent written and verbal skills required
Must have good organizational skills and be self-motivated
Must have the ability to handle and process confidential information in a discrete manner
Valid Driver’s License for business travel
Pass a drug test, physical, and background check
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs. Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, airborne particles (sawdust) and be able to safety navigate a sawmill facility.
