As a Library Assistant for the Information Central department (primarily located in offices at the Selby Library branch location) you will provide public information and reference services. This department stands as a centralized system-wide telephone and electronic reference service for the ten branch libraries. All employees participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contribute to decision-making and evaluate the teams progress. In this role you will…
Ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry from internal and external customers, delivered with the utmost courtesy and respect.
Provide prompt, courteous customer service to patrons when answering reference, directional, and/or reader’s advisory questions.
Determine and implement research strategies and utilize print and electronic resources to answer patron reference questions.
Respond to patron requests for library circulation transactions, including hold, renewals, etc.
Explain and interpret library policies and procedures.
Provide instruction and assistance in the use of library technology resources.
Transfer calls to appropriate library service desks, other County agencies, etc.
Provide information and referral to appropriate sources as applicable.
Troubleshoot computer connection problems at a primary level.
Provide assistance at service desks and other sections as needed.
Represent Sarasota County to users.
Provide assistance for Interlibrary Loan and Books by Mail.
Develop and maintain a knowledge base of frequently asked questions.
Gather usage statistics as required.
Assist with ILS database maintenance as requested.
Participate in developing and implementing Info Central policies and procedures.
Provide recommendations to assist in improving operational efficiency.
Work Hours:
Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
Must be available, Monday – Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
This location is not currently open on Sundays, however this is subject to change.
Work schedules may vary due to split shifts, rotations, on-call, emergencies, etc.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent education.
One (1) year experience in public contact work and working knowledge of computer and hardware systems dealing with public response.
Preferred Qualifications:
Major coursework in Library Science, English, Communications or a related field.
Starting Pay: $18.00/hr
