We believe that in senior living, smaller is better. Matthew Long, the founder of Longhouse, attended University of Washington, where he earned Bachelor and Master Degrees (1997). In 2009, after talking with thousands of seniors, he was determined to provide a counterbalance to all the forces that pull seniors out of home environments. He founded Husky Senior Care (2009) to help seniors stay at home and Longhouse (2017) in case they can’t stay at home. This ecosystem provides seniors with household options no matter what.
Staff Accountant/Senior Bookkeeper
REPORTS TO: Owner
JOB SUMMARY: The Staff Accountant/Senior Bookkeeper’s job is to do the company’s day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting. This includes maintaining the company QuickBooks financial records, A/P and A/R, processing payroll, resolving payroll and billing issues, producing budgets and other financial reports, improving the company’s financial systems, and performing other tasks as needed to help the company run smoothly.
SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm plus some earlier mornings or later evenings if something comes up. Working from home for 3 days/week after an initial start up period is fine.
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Bookkeeping
o Accounts payable
o Accounts receivables
o Petty cash account responsibilities, perform employee expense reimbursements,
o Understand taxes obligation and remit those that aren’t handled by the payroll company (city and state business tax, L&I, quarterly federal taxes)
o Account for fixed assets
o Conduct a monthly reconciliation all bank accounts
o Maintain a QuickBooks system of accounts, with a supporting filing system and chart of accounts
o Monitor cash levels
o Record cash receipts, and make bank deposits
o Create financial statements and related financial reports
o Produce an annual budget and track monthly budget vs. actual, including counseling colleagues on overtime and other variances
o Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements
o Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested
Payroll
o Maintain and run payroll for 150+ employees spread across three entities. Currently we use Gusto with hours imported from Clear Care.
o Work with our payroll provider to ensure accurate and timely information
o Answer employee questions
Billing
o Provide A/R services for 75-150 clients
o Issue invoices and collect from customers in a timely manner
o Provide customer service and close out exiting customers
Team Development
o Meet weekly with Owner or as needed to give financial update and target any issues
o Be an evangelist for company goals and meet with team mates if there is a variance between the Company goals and actual spending, particularly on Over Time
o Energize and communicate with team mates to help set a high standard of performance related to Company financial goals
o Flag variance issues early and often, be an evangelist for staying on budget
QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: College degree in accounting, business, or economics
EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of successful experience working as a staff accountant or senior bookkeeper with increasing responsibility.
REFERENCES: References of former supervisors going back three years.
