Job Summary:
This position is an unclassified position in the Benefits section of Human Resource Management. The Benefits section of HRM is responsible for processing the day to day benefit transactions in the HCM Workday system and providing employee assistance on benefit needs. This position also serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Benefits Module in Workday. The incumbent must work in a team environment, exercise initiative and judgment, possess attention to detail skills, follow up on issues and projects, and foster ethical conduct. This position also requires knowledge of various federal and state statues such as HIPAA and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This position will work closely with the Assistant Director and Director of Benefits to establish and achieve operational goals and standards.
Job Responsibilities:
40%- Serves as HCM Benefits subject matter expert (SME) which consist of benefits and retirement plans offered to the LSU community. The SME will assist in the development of Workday processes and creation/revision of benefit plans. Serve as the primary contact to troubleshoot Workday errors and glitches, etc. for the Benefits module. Responsible for troubleshooting and finding areas to streamline processes and making recommendations for changes in the Workday system. Evaluate Workday updates for changes related to the Benefits module and/or changes in other modules that may have an effect on Benefits. Works with Central Support Services to support testing and other issues. Monitor and maintain Workday Community engagement to include brainstorm updates as needed.
20%- Administers LSU Tuition Exemption program along with processing requests each semester. Maintains and adheres to PS-63 – Death of an Employee. Educate and assist employees regarding benefit options offered by the University including presenting relevant benefit materials at New Employee Orientation, HR Analyst meetings, Business Managers meetings and providing assistance to walk-ins, responding to e-mails, answering/returning phone calls.
20%- Audits benefit lines of coverage for accuracy, including weekly discrepancies from insurance vendors and monthly discrepancies from Payroll invoices. Ensure weekly files are functioning properly and addresses updates when needed. Handles quarterly reporting with life vendor and clears any enrollment discrepancies.
15%- Serves as the Benefits Coordinator backup in processing benefit transactions in Workday such as: new hire, birth, adoption, marriage, divorce, loss/gain of other coverage, termination, and benefits related mailings/correspondence to employees. Also serves as backup for life and LTD claims.
5%- Works on Special Projects as assigned: Position is responsible for annual configuration of Open Enrollment in Workday, attending OE labs, and assisting employees with questions and/or Workday assistance. Coordinate and provide reporting to other WD campuses for processing, processing of Open Enrollment transactions into various systems, and conducting benefit audits at the conclusion of Open Enrollment to ensure accurate changes. Coordinates and processes the annual 1095 reporting for the LSU Baton Rouge Paid campuses. Other special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field with 3-5 years of benefits experience and knowledge of Workday.
