DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Salary: $19.57 – $37.98 Hourly
Maintenance Tech I: $19.57 – $25.48 Hourly
Water Systems Tech I: $21.54 – $28.03 Hourly
Water Systems Tech II: $23.70 – $30.82 Hourly
Water Systems Tech III: $25.53 – $34.47 Hourly
Water Systems Tech IV: $28.13 – $37.98 Hourly
*Technician level will be determined by level of certifications and experience.
Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician assists in the routine maintenance of sanitary sewer lines and other related equipment and facilities. Inspects, performs necessary repairs, preventive maintenance necessary for sanitary sewer lines. Field work involves working in confined spaces, excavation trenches, and near the operation of heavy equipment. Specific tasks may involve operating various equipment, keeping logs on corrections, ordering, and installing replacement parts, etc. Stand-by duty for emergency call-in is rotated among division employees.
Experience, Knowledge, & Skills:
• Possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Current possession of a CDL or ability to obtain CDL within three (3) months of hire date.
• Prior water, sewer, or streets maintenance related experience preferred.
• Prior mechanical experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in utility maintenance work (e.g., metal detectors, measuring instruments, pick, shovels, probe rods, dump truck, etc.)
• State of Colorado Collection Class Level 1 – 4 preferred.
• Ability to obtain State of Colorado Class 1 Collection Certification within 1 year of hire.
Essential Functions:
• Ability to measure distance using a tape measure or calibrated instruments.
• Ability to interpret maps, electrical schematics, and drawings.
• Ability to learn job-related material through oral instructions and observation.
• Ability to follow established safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to perform “on call” duties.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements (performed with or without accommodation):
• Exposure to all weather conditions.
• Exposure to various types of machinery noise, some levels excessive.
• Vision enough to perform functions such as identifying materials necessary to complete maintenance on equipment; operate vehicles and equipment; and locating water and sewer lines.
• Manual dexterity enough to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Ability to make precise arm-hand position movements and maintain static hand position. (i.e., using a hammer, saw, screwdriver or similar tool.)
• Ability to make repetitive arm-hand movements.
• Ability to bend and stoop repeatedly or continually over time.
• Ability to work in small, cramped areas and to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
• Ability to operate machinery such as jackhammer, tamper, etc.
• Ability to move debris, dirt, and other material from one place to another using a shovel, rake, or other tool.
• Ability to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time.
• Flexibility enough to bend, twist and reach out to load and unload equipment, supplies or tools.
• Ability to move over rough, uneven, and rocky surfaces in the performance of maintenance duties.
• Stamina and strength enough to move objects 20-50 pounds long distances.
