You will then be able to attach your Resume/CV, as well as all other supporting documentation in the “My Experience” section of your application.Job DescriptionOVERVIEWThe Coordinator of Strategic Communications will take a primary leadership position in a range of roles and directives in the area of strategic communications for the School of Communication and Media, both in and outside of the classroom environment. The Coordinator will direct the student-run strategic communications agency Hawk Communications, teach assigned classes, oversee additional co-curricular activities, and provide leadership and vision for the Agency as it continues to grow in size and stature. The incumbent will oversee daily management and growth of the School’s new Strategic Communication Center, which houses its Social Media Hub and will work with School administration, faculty, staff, and students on best use of the Center, acquisition and implementation of new software technology, partnerships with external publics, and growth of the Center’s capacity across the range of majors and programs in the School.The Coordinator will also take a leadership role in the School’s communication strategy, working with the School director and other staff members to ensure the School’s web, social, and other media are effective and address the needs of our various constituents, including current and prospective students. The Coordinator will teach additional courses as assigned in the strategic communications area, including signature learning opportunities such as the Bateman competition courses and applied courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. This position will contribute to the academic life of the School, connecting students and faculty with industry opportunities, including corporate partners and internship opportunities, and administratively work with faculty in the strategic communication area, home of our Public Relations degree program and soon also an Advertising degree program.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Direct the School’s strategic communications agency Hawk Communications, teaching its academic course and overseeing its growth both in and outside the classroom.Attract new partners and clients for the Agency that enhance both student experience and the prestige of the Agency.Expand the Agency’s capacity across the School’s range of majors and programs, including students from across the School and working with other School University co-curricular program, such as the NewsLab, Red Hawk Sports Network, WMSC, and others.Oversee the School’s new Strategic Communication Center and its Social Media Hub, ensuring acquisition and implementation of software for social media analytics, listening, management, and beyond. Create and implement a strategy for the use of the Center by classes, students, and faculty, and build sustainable partnerships both in and outside the University that help expands the Center’s mission and prominence. Create a sustainable plan for the Center’s growth and efficacy in the rapidly evolving landscape of communication and social media.Teach two classes per semester (this includes classes for Hawk Communications), including potentially leading coursework for the Bateman competition and other courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.Help to create meaningful symbiotic relationships with external partners in strategic communications, including corporations, agencies, and non-profits, that can lead to collaborative School projects and jobs and internships for students.Be an engaged member of the Strategic Communication academic area, home of the public relations major (and soon a new advertising major); work with faculty in the area on critical issues of teaching, clubs, curriculum, and integration of clubs and co-curricular programs (including such programs as PRSSA and the creation of an Advertising Club).Serve a leadership role in developing and executing the School’s communication strategy, including its web, social media, and other communication tools. Work with the School Director to build and maintain sustainable strategy and tactics to engage the School’s various publics, including prospective students, parents, alumni, and industry leaders; engage faculty, staff, and students to create content for the School’s communication platforms.Perform other duties as assigned.Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.QUALIFICATIONS:REQUIRED:Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.Minimum of two years of professional experience in strategic communication, either in corporate, agency, or non-profit.Two years of teaching experience in a higher education setting or similar organization in strategic communication, public relations, and/or advertising.An understanding of social media analytics tools and their integration in academic instruction.PREFERRED:Experience working with student driven communications agencies.Experience working full time in a university environment, either in an academic department or affiliated communications areas.A strong understanding of the best practices and potential of a social media hub at a University.Have strong industry ties in strategic communications, particularly those in the New York metropolitan area.PROCEDURE FOR CANDIDACYApplicants should include a resume and cover letter describing how their background, skills and education match the needs of the University.
