The ideal candidate will have a broad base of experiences (i.e., patrol, investigations, SWAT, traffic, training, administration, incident command and emergency management, etc.), a Master’s degree in a law enforcement related field (preferred), possess knowledge of a mountain/tourist-based economy, be exceptional at relationship building both inside and outside the organization, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, understand the unique needs of a senior population, have a history of positive collaboration across divisions and groups, a history of planning and facilitating large special events, and have a strong desire to imbed themselves into the community of Estes Park.

This position requires a high level of discretion, responsibility, the ability to organize projects, set goals, and use effective strategies to achieve them. This role will also entail running the day-to-day operations of patrol or the support services section of the department; occasionally serving as the Public Information Office (PIO) and Chief of Police in their absence, and work on the street with patrol officers. Additionally, this person will coordinate assigned activities with other town departments and outside agencies, and work with a committed command staff. The work is performed under the general direction of the Police Chief and requires the exercise of significant initiative, judgment, and decision making. This position reports to the Chief of Police.
