Eligible lists may be used for temporary and permanent vacancies for the class of work during the life of the eligible list. Temporary appointments may lead to conversion to permanent employment.
Independently performs the full range and variety of clerical work in report reviewing, records analysis and warrants processing in the Police Records section of the Kauai Police Department; and performs other related duties as required.

Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and;
Specialized Experience: Work Experience in police records keeping, central police report follow-up work, or processing and maintenance of police records.

If work experience is used to substitute for education, it may not be used again to meet the experience requirement. If the applicant holds more than one degree, transcripts must be provided and a thorough review will be conducted by the DHR staff in order for more than one degree to be credited towards the minimum qualification requirements. Additional degrees can be considered if obtained independently through mutually exclusive classes from another degree being considered. Substitutions will be used to the advantage of the applicant.
Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualifications for a position. The applicant’s overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered.
License Requirement: At the time of appointment, the candidate selected may need to possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license if the position requires it.
Firearms Requirement: As applicable to the position, must be qualified to carry and/or possess firearms or ammunition in accordance with State and Federal laws, e.g. no misdemeanor or felony domestic violence conviction.
Knowledge of: The police records system; the organization, functions, rules, regulations and policies of the Kauai Police Department; uniform crime reporting; pertinent laws and ordinances of the State and County; police records filing methods and systems; applicable procedures of the courts and the Prosecuting Attorney’s office; crime classification and coding; office practices and procedures; various types of police records; filing methods and systems; procedures for recording, distributing and accounting of warrants, subpoenas and other legal documents; grammar and word usage; filing and indexing; office practices and procedures; the use and purpose of standard office equipment, including personal computers and peripherals and copiers; principles and practices of supervision.
Ability to: Independently review and analyze police reports for accuracy and completeness; abstract, compile and summarize crime statistics and related data from police reports; prepare statistical reports; maintain various police records and files; properly account for warrants, subpoenas and other legal documents; understand and apply pertinent laws, rules and procedures; make arithmetic computations; interpret laws, rules and regulations; operate computer and standard office equipment; follow and give oral and written instructions; deal courteously and effectively with police personnel, governmental officials and the public.
Tests: Applicants may be required to qualify on an appropriate examination.
