Manages the Borough’s liability and insurance programs; identifies and analyzes risks, economically protects assets against loss, recommends appropriate risk transfers and risk financing strategies.

Identifies and analyzes risks, and recommends appropriate risk transfers, risk controls and risk financing strategies.
Negotiates, secures, and administers insurance coverage for a variety of risk exposures; evaluates insurance costs, self-insured retentions, and the effectiveness of self-insurance versus commercial insurance.
Manages the Borough’s liability insurance coverage by managing the investigation of claims and lawsuits, maintaining proper record retention and accurate loss experience data, and recommending insurance coverage for Borough contracts.
Consults and confers with governmental agencies, and manages regulatory compliance with Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation and Alaska Occupational Safety and Health.
Manages fire protection and alarms, and required certification programs.
Monitors and presents written and oral reports concerning legislation, changes in insurance coverage and costs, loss trends, and other topics that may impact the Borough.
Stays current with new industry practices and activities to ensure the use of “best practices” in risk transfers, loss controls, risk financing techniques, and insurance coverage.
Works effectively with NSB departments and others in order to reduce the frequency and severity of accidental losses, and achieve a workplace environment committed to safety and loss prevention.
Works closely with NSB departments and a variety of outside agencies and organizations to develop and update the risk management plans.
Maybe required to travel to the villages within the North Slope Borough.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the principles of risk and insurance management.
Knowledge of applicable statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations.
Knowledge of file and records management principles.
Skill in reading, understanding, interpreting and applying relevant Borough, state and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations.
Knowledge of NSB, state and Federal statutes, ordinances, and regulations on emergency management.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with other NSB employees and representatives from other state and Federal agencies.
Associates Degree or equivalent credit hours,
Four years of risk management work experience, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience;
Two years of supervisory work experience;
Valid Alaska Driver’s License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
