Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking an Area Coordinator. The Area Coordinator position is a full-time, 12-month, professional position within the Office of Housing & Residence Life. The Area Coordinator works to ensure that residential students of the campus are receiving extracurricular enrichment in a supportive environment, have support as they face academic and personal challenges, and are being presented with opportunities for learning, growth, leadership, and skill building. The Area Coordinator is responsible for the following, and not limited to: Works with other departmental staff to oversee a community of students; Supervises student Resident Assistants and other student staff that provide services and support for the residential community; Ensures that the necessary programs, events, community building initiatives, and other residence hall education and development are in place for the population of students living in the community; Helps facilitate student conduct matters for resident students; Works closely with the administrative team to facilitate summer, winter and in-service training for the student staff of the department; Ensures that all department events are reserved and confirmed with the campus Event Services Office through the EMS system, and ensures all department events have effective advertising, including posting to electronic display boards across all residence halls; Supervises the summer Resident Assistant staff during the summer months, ensures that summer programming is in place, and helps department staff with duties related to our guest and conference services operation within the department; Requires evening and weekend hours, and it is a “live-in” position, with an on-campus apartment and partial meal plan provided in the compensation package. Minimum Education and ExperienceRequires a bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. A minimum of two years of related experience, which includes live-in supervisory residential life experience, a working knowledge of student development theory and practice, strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requires a bachelor’s degree and/or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience; Must have a valid driver’s license, and will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course; Strong written, presentation, and oral skills; Due to the nature of the work with college students, a working knowledge of student development theory and practice is required; Must be willing to listen to complaints and develop solutions to problems.
