About the Position
South Seattle College is seeking a Library and Archives Paraprofessional 3 to work collaboratively with library colleagues, faculty, and staff across campus. The library invites students to bring their lived experiences, knowledges, and whole selves to our space, and we look for staff prepared to create supportive and welcoming learning environments where students and colleagues can flourish. In addition to circulation duties, this position will also participate and contribute to campus programming, committees, and other district or local initiatives. This position will be instrumental to the library as it reshapes its collections and policies to better embody the library and college missions.
About the South Seattle College Library
We’re a small team working on big projects. Working within higher ed and across the 3-campus district, we value anti-racism, flattening hierarchies, and making decisions collaboratively. Over the past two years, we have drastically reviewed our collections and policies to center student experiences. This is an exciting time to join the South Seattle College library if you’re looking for a role that will allow co-creation and innovation within library science.
The Library is part of the Instruction and Support Services Division, which will soon be reorganized. For the first time, tutoring, professional development, and the library will be brought together under one Dean. The library shares space with eLearning and computer labs located in the library.
Currently, the library is open M-Th 8:30am-5pm and we work remotely on Fridays. We evaluate these hours quarterly to continue aligning with student needs. Our team is comprised of 1 FT librarian (we are in the hiring process for 2 more FT librarians to start in the fall), 3 PT librarians, 1.5 FT circulation staff, 1 administrative coordinator, 6 hourly and student employees and one peer mentor.
