Position Overview
Under general supervision, prepares, organizes, and maintains health information records and reports in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agencies. Compiles, classifies, and codes individual identification by preparing statistical reports and processing data transactions to include demographics, diagnostic codes, and updates to individuals’ records for presentations and discharges. Prepares statistical reports for population, admissions, and discharges. Processes requests for information and correspondence on discharged individuals to include review of consents for validity, preparation and filing of records, data transactions in the disclosure tracking system, and any associated correspondence; responds to inquiries from the general public, providers, legal representatives, and other public agencies in conformance with agency policies.
Job Responsibilities
1. Prepares, organizes, and maintains health information records and reports in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
2. Assists with diagnostic coding.
3. Compiles, reviews, and corrects the daily population sheets regarding individuals’ movements.
4. Prepares statistical reports for population, admissions, and discharges.
5. Serves as assistant by interpreting the Mental Health Code, Confidentiality Act, department and facility policies, rules and Medical Record Guidelines.
6. Performs other duties as requires or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years college and one year of health-related office experience, or completion of high school and three years of health-related office experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of health information records maintenance.
Requires working knowledge of departmental code and other rules and regulations as related to health information records.
Working knowledge of medical, psychological and psychiatric terminology.
Conditions of Employment
1. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related Policies and guidance.
2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
