POSITION SUMMARY

Contributes to the Human Resources Department at Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation (SSRC) by influencing, supporting & facilitating the processes of the HR department, with a focus on employee relations, onboarding, and employee uniforms through the HR Satellite Office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

General Responsibilities

• Receive, evaluate, investigate and respond appropriately to employee and manager workplace concerns under the guidance of the HR Director
• Conduct investigations of complaints and recommend corrective actions
• Partner with HR Director &/or Alterra Mountain Company legal and HR teams on complex employee relations issues
• Provide guidance and counsel to employees on employee relations issues and workplace practices
• Advise management and leadership on employee relations related initiatives and trends
• Serve as the point of contact on fundamental HR issues and questions
• Oversight of the termination process and works with HRD on facilitating manager training. Ensure all involuntary terminations are handled appropriately
• Maintain employee relations through an open-door policy. Be alert to indicators of employee dissatisfactions and contribute to the effort for improvement
• Determine a process for addressing internal complaints and employee concerns within 48 hours of learning of the issue. Immediately contact or communicate with the employees in question
• Manage the employee uniform program and the employees of the Uniform Room
• Ensure that onboarding activities are completed in accordance with SSSRC processes and designated timelines
• Participate in HR Administrative tasks, including seasonal ramp up and ramp down processes
• Monitor and respond to FreshService ticketing system as needed
• Supervise the department’s specialist and support staff and ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time
• Establishes a strong front of house HR team of Specialists who troubleshoot ID issues, enhance systems knowledge and surpasses the expectations of the applicant and employee. Oversight of all job offers, Workday (HRIS System) hire actions and onboarding processes by reinforcing established best practices while continually searching for improved processes
• Supervises the background check process and audits by directing HR Specialists
• Supervises the E-Verify process by directing the HR Specialists
• Works with the appropriate parties to minimize pay out of claims through employment hearings by compiling accurate and detailed documentation
• Maintain employee records through all HRIS systems available while exploring efficiencies across the processes
• Maintains employee confidence and protects the operations by ensuring information is confidential. Certified HIPAA credential will be maintained
• Consult with HR Director on Strategic initiatives by serving as a link between the organization’s management and its employees
• Maintain quality service by following organizations standards, while weighing efficiency and practically against the normal standards. Continues to challenge standards and frequently finds a ‘better way’
• Participate with annual planning with department strategies, budgets and business plans
• Assist the HR Director with special projects, including audits, HRIS or other system implementations

• Serve as an active and supportive member of the Human Resources team. Participates in events and functions hosted by HR, creates a positive and creative atmosphere in the HR Office
• Demonstrate tact and diplomacy, while maintaining compassion, in day-to-day interactions with employees
• Guides employees through periods of change, even during difficult times or in the face of hard business decisions
• Exhibits honesty, integrity in an environment of mutual respect and trust, core values, reliability

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
• Perform other duties as requested by the HR Director and Senior Team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of applicable state and federal employment laws
• Professional appearance and demeanor
• Strong public speaking and presenting skills
• Proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion with regards to special employee situations
• Able to work independently and take initiative without continual oversight from HR Director
• Ability to collaborate with others including internal and external customers, employees and guests
• Able to successfully implement projects and initiatives
• Strong leadership skills

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university or college in related field, preferred

Experience: 5+ years of Human Resources experience preferably in Resort/Hospitality setting. Previous leadership experience required, no less than one year. Experience with employee relations & workplace investigations required. Experience with Workday highly desired. PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.

PAY

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on a range of factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term and long-term incentives.

Steamboat area base salary range: $72,000 – $75,000 per year plus up to 10% bonus opportunity

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is required to work peak season weekends and holidays, to include winter weekends. Indoor and outdoor mobility throughout the resort is required.

Indoor/Outdoor: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to harsh and varying outside weather conditions.

Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level in the work place is usually moderate.
