The Stormwater Specialist position supervises the Stormwater Crew and manages work orders, inventory of materials and equipment, and addresses other needs for stormwater construction and maintenance work to be completed. The Stormwater Specialist will be responsible for researching needed materials and equipment and associated costs to improve the performance of construction and maintenance. The Stormwater Specialist aids in program implementation and projects to comply with the City of Lexington’s federally mandated National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. This is accomplished through conducting inspections of public and private construction sites and Stormwater Control Measures; responding to drainage complaints; collecting and editing of stormwater infrastructure inventory program; and providing education and technical assistance to internal and external clients.

Determination of initial job title (Stormwater Specialist I, Stormwater Specialist II or Stormwater Specialist III) will be based upon qualifications. Minimum Qualifications
Stormwater Specialist I
• Graduation from high school or GED and two years experience in construction and maintenance or related environmental field work;
• Possession of a valid NC Driver’s license and good driving record.
Stormwater Specialist II or III
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, design, construction management, or related field from an appropriately accredited school;
• Possession of a valid NC Driver’s license and good driving record;
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Work Schedule
Monday – Thursday, 7:00 am – 4:30 pm and Friday 7:00am – 11:00am. Paid bi-weekly.
