Job Description:
All camp staff should be available to work full days, Monday – Friday, starting June 5th – July 28th.
Optional Mini-Camp Counselor opportunity July 31st – August 4th.
A $100 bonus may be earned by attending all scheduled training and working 39 full days out of the 44 available camp days between June 5th – August 4th.
Specialty Counselors and Subs are not eligible.
ALL STAFF – Paid Counselor Training May 30th – June 2nd
Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor Training – Wednesday, May 24th from 6:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.
We have four different types of positions available. Hourly pay rates for the different positions are as follows:
Counselor: $15.00 – $17.50
Specialty/Substitute Counselor: $16.50 – $20.00
Assistant Supervisor: $16.50 – $20.00
Supervisor: $18.00- $21.50
New hires receive the minimum rate. Staff rehired for Summer Camp receive a $.50/hour pay incentive per year of experience, up to a maximum of $1.50/hour.
Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors who possess a Professional Florida Educator’s Certificate (teachers) receive a $2.00 per hour pay incentive
All positions:
Must be at least 16 years of age and successfully completed 10th grade.
For all positions you must be able to organize and participate in games, sports, individual and group activities, arts and crafts, theme weeks, special events, field trips, the summer reading program, etc.
May assist with providing necessary and appropriate accommodations to ensure all children may participate in camp activities. This may include interventions when negative behavior is displayed and helping with corrective actions to reinforce positive behaviors.
Summer Camp Counselors:
Responsible for organizing and facilitating daily/weekly activities for a group of campers.
Supervise participants and activities in a summer camp setting.
Specialty/Substitute Counselors:
Specialty counselors work part-time in various locations throughout Sarasota County. Specialty camp counselors oversee children, handle check-in and check-out and assist instructors or topic experts as they present camp content. Specialty Camp Counselors may work mornings or afternoons only and may also be asked to fill in at full-day camps. Flexible scheduling makes this position perfect for those that cannot work full-day camps, full summer, or full weeks.
Supervise participants and activities in a camp setting.
Perform cleaning and organization of assigned group areas.
Summer Camp Supervisors & Assistant Supervisors:
Direct summer recreation camp operation, generally with less than 175 campers.
Act as a liaison with field trip venues; responsible for maintaining the safety of children and staff at field trip locations and during transportation to and from field trip locations; supervise the actions of counselors.
Display leadership ability in planning and directing recreational activities.
Ensure the safety and security of children and staff at a facility; maintain safe conditions at a facility.
Work with the Therapeutic Recreation (T-REC) / Parks ADA Coordinator as needed, to provide necessary and appropriate accommodations to ensure all children may participate in camp activities. This may include interventions when negative behavior is displayed and helping with corrective actions to reinforce positive behaviors.
Assistant Supervisor Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of one (1) year (or season for day camp experience) of work experience in a childcare/day camp program, including direct contact with children and staff supervision.
Supervisor Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of two (2) years (or seasons for day camp experience) of work experience in a childcare/day camp program, including direct contact with children and staff supervision.
College coursework is preferred for all positions.
Driver’s License, I-9 Documentation, and your original signed Social Security Card.
