Supervises the mixing, spraying, and application of insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and fertilizers to park areas, grasses, shrubbery, and trees; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancy: There is 1 vacancy with the Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division. This position works under the general supervision of the Park Grounds Improvement Supervisor II, and is required to supervise a Chemical Treatment Crew, Utility Crew, and Maintenance Crew in a major geographical area on Oahu. This position is also responsible for overseeing the application of a wide range of horticultural chemicals, fertilizers, and soil amendments, and the maintenance and upkeep of athletic fields, asphalt parking lots, walk paths, and the pressure washing of all park facilities. This position, through subordinate crews, supports the different trade sections of Maintenance Support Services (Plumbing, Welding, Masonry, Carpentry & Painting sections). These operations cover all regional parks, sports complexes, district parks, community and neighborhood parks, nurseries, street trees, and other properties under the jurisdiction of the department.
Special Working Conditions: This position will serve as Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies. Daily exposure to chemicals. May be required to work weekends, early mornings, nights, and holidays.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care, maintenance and beautification of landscaped areas, including the spraying and application of a variety of agricultural chemicals.
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures for using agricultural chemicals, including fertilizers, common weeds, insect pests, and plant diseases, also chemical applications, such as tools and equipment used in chemical treatment work and their proper maintenance, and the proper hazards and safety procedures.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
1. Possession of a valid Hawaii State driver’s license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
2. Obtain a Hawaii Pesticide Applicator License, Category 3, prior to completion of probation.
