Summary
The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) is looking for a HR Generalist Intermediate with responsibility for the planning, implementation, management, and coordination of a broad range of activities related to employment that is separate from but affecting human resources responsibilities and other operational areas for faculty, staff, graduate students, and temporary employees.
We are looking for someone who can work effectively in a fast-paced/immediacy based environment with multiple constituents to achieve high-level results. Those in this position will represent the Office of Human Resources and the School of Nursing in a friendly, professional, and inclusive manner when working with others in-person, in written correspondence, and via video conferencing with the ability to build strong working relations with other operational teams.
Responsibilities*
Recruitment and Employment
Manage processes related to personnel appointments from new hire through reclassification/equity/retirement/resignation/terminations and processes.
Manage the diverse candidate pool process and provide advisement to supervisors and faculty administrators during the recruitment/hiring process, while supporting the school’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategic plan for faculty and staff employment.
Coordinate leaves of absence including, maintaining tracking systems for reporting, and leave plan development.
Manage school new staff and supervisor (faculty and staff) orientation.
Be a resource and coordinate LEO Lecturer and GEO/GSRA graduate student appointment/re-appointment, letters, spreadsheets, tracking systems and review timelines and annual evaluations.
Contribute to the annual faculty/staff evaluation and merit program processes.
Faculty Recruitment/Searches
In collaboration with leadership/search committee members provide HR advisory to:
Create faculty job descriptions and recruitment materials; place advertisements on various internet job boards, society, and association websites, print advertisements, in local and national publications, etc.
Respond to inquiries and track incoming applicant paperwork for review by the School; follow-up with prospective faculty throughout the hiring process; and draft recommendation letters.
Provide consultation to search committees, including draft meeting agendas, copy and distributing agenda and supporting documents to faculty, meeting set-up, taking meeting minutes, and providing follow-up on action items as necessary, etc.
Coordinate visit logistics, i.e., tours, travel, itineraries, accommodations, facilitates visit from arrival to departure for incoming position candidates, as needed.
Clinical and/or Multiple Funding Sources Internal/External
Manage faculty/staff matters with a higher level of complexity and coordination generally for clinical track faculty and/or those supported by multiple grants, contracts, foundations, or other sources.
Provide HR advisement in the development of agreements such as offers, MOUs, reappointments or amendment letters.
Payroll/Compensation/Salary/Equity
Manage payroll and timekeeping for the school for all faculty, staff, graduate students, and temporary employees, including reminder emails, reporting, follow-up and resolving issues.
Conduct salary analysis and equity reviews for faculty, staff, and temporary staff.
Compliance
Manage effort certification processes for all faculty and staff in the school.
Manage licensures and health requirement compliance processes for all faculty in the school.
Manage U-M Culture of Respect training on gender-based harassment and compliance completion for all faculty, staff, graduate student employees, and temporary staff for the school.
Coordinate COVID-19 training and compliance and other safety practice trainings.
General HR Advisement
Maintain confidential HR personnel files (hard copy/electronic), records and reporting including preparation of and responding to general requests and internal and external surveys.
Provide HR advisement to faculty, staff, graduate students, and temporary staff on matters related to human resources.
Required Qualifications*
A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or a related field is required.
Three (3) to five (5) years of directly applicable human resources experience and progressively responsible work experience in higher education, and a working knowledge of clinical track faculty and health systems.
Project management experience.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. You will be expected to write clearly and concisely for various mediums. You will be expected to have solid interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
