The primary responsibilities include duties that support a variety of talent acquisition programs by recruiting and hiring staff. In this position, you will develop job advertisements, monitor and screen applications, schedule interviews and prepare related documentation. You will also handle the background process, and manage recruitment files which have deadline driven milestones. As workload allows, you will assist with interviewing candidates and working collaboratively with managers in the selection process. Assist with employee relations.
The ideal candidate will be compassionate and customer focused, a highly motivated self-starter who adapts readily to change, can maintain a high-level of confidentiality, works well with time-sensitive/deadline-driven tasks and pays close attention to detail.
This position will require a flexible, adaptive, dependable, and tech savvy employee. This is an hourly position, averaging around 29 hours per week, with the ability to work up to 1,500 maximum hours between May 1 and April 30 each year. Position is not eligible for state benefits. Flexible work hours available (between 8 and 5), Monday through Friday.
VDOT is an emergency response agency. This position is designated as essential, employees may be required to work in emergencies, to include weekends, holidays, and after normal business hours; assignments will vary based on business needs.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have both minimum and preferred qualifications:
Knowledge of HR practices and principles.
Extraordinary customer service skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse clientele and workforce.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills, and experience with Google Workspace, a variety of Microsoft Office Suite software, and web-based applications.
Ability to gather and analyze data and prepare technical reports.
Ability to balance multiple priorities, make effective business decisions, and meet project-based deadlines.
Ability to implement diverse recruitment plans, using available tools and techniques to source qualified, interested, and available applicants.
Experience in supporting managers, and other HR Professionals in fostering a positive image of an organization, specifically in recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding activities.
Work independently and as a team to meet organizational goals.
Valid Driver’s License to operate state vehicles in performance of duties, to attend meetings or trainings.
Preferred Qualifications
College degree in Human Resources, Business or related field of study
PHR or SPHR certification
Knowledge of the Commonwealth’s Recruitment Management System
Experience with HR records management, auditing, and compliance.
Experience with applicant tracking software, or human resources information systems.
Experience with Talent Acquisition functions of recruiting and candidate sourcing.
